I only know about the JLPT for native English speakers, but I know there is something else going the other way. I know about TOEFL, but there must be something else. Anyway, if she can pass that, there is no need to go to school.
Many translation companies want their translators to pass JLPT at level one. If you can do that, you are considered fluent enough to translate.
