need a little job advice

my girlfriend who is japanese is fluent in english reading, writing, joking ect.. and she wants to eventualy be a translator she looking at a translation school but its really pricy i was wondering if anyone new anything about this field and if she even needs to go to school for it to get a well paying job in japan or the states? any advice would be greatly appreciated..

If she is fluent in both languages, I am wondering why she would need to go to translation school. Actually, what is a translation school?

to have some type of degree in translating stuff i think its mainly for job placement and connections, but i belive they give u a masters also. and yes she is fluent in both.

I only know about the JLPT for native English speakers, but I know there is something else going the other way. I know about TOEFL, but there must be something else. Anyway, if she can pass that, there is no need to go to school.

Many translation companies want their translators to pass JLPT at level one. If you can do that, you are considered fluent enough to translate.
