Well when I have migraines I take Excedrin, usually get a cold compress and lay in bed(In the dark) that generally works unless Im stuck somewhere then I take medicine and hope it feels better, some times puting something on my stomach tends to work if i havnt eaten. I tend to get more tension headaches than Migraines but those are some of the things I do. I hate those damn things they come at improper times but I always carry some Medicine that tends to help over time.

Ever since I was five or so, I've been prone to them. Sometimes I just get normal headaches, but they usually become migraines.
I take lots of advil. (Poor kidneys, i'm sorry.) Of course, then I lie down with the lights off and pray for silence. Sleeping it off usually works... I've tried medication like Imitrex and Relpax but so far they all have bad side effects. I have a friend who takes a pill a day to prevent them. He says they work! |

I always take Excedrin and hope that it works. If possible, I sleep.
But, 9 times out of 10, Excedrin only reduces the agony and I just suffer through the 2 days mine always last. And then enjoy the half day of floaty euphoria after they go away. I`ve found that Tylenol/Aspirin + one of those caffeine laden vitamin drinks (I don`t know if they`re sold outside Japan) also tones things down a bit. Apparently the caffeine is the key. |

I take Topamax daily for my migraines as a preventative and I still get them sometimes. I was also given a generic for Fioricet for pain and it helps 99% of the time.
I was told by my neurologist that taking Motrin (ibuprofen and tylenol) will cause rebound headaches and that they should not be taken to prevent frequent headaches and migraines. Quote:

I`ve actually never tried a prescription pain killer for the headaches themselves. I am still able to function (minus half the vision in my right eye), so figured I could deal without. Or rather, I know someone who was given serious pain killers for their migraines and ended up addicted so... I`ve always passed. Excedrin works well enough. Plus, if the headache goes away with medication, I don`t get that extra special magical euphoric feeling when it finally does go away! I have to wonder how many people are really having migraines, and how many are just having bad headaches... Not to doubt anyone here, but it seems like a lot of people think that a migraine is just a bad headache. |

It`s not. There are some pretty significant differences. Unless you`ve gone to a doctor and been told it`s a migraine, it may not be.
I get headaches, and I also have migraines. A headache just hurts and throbs. But with a migraine, I can`t see properly out of my right eye, my hands shake, and I have the constant urge to vomit. If I hadn`t gone to the doctor and had them confirm that it was indeed a migraine, I would have been worried it was a brain tumor or something of the like. |
