Maybe "symbolizes" wasn't the best term to use, but still, there is truth in my sentence. I've read some books about Japan and articles that say that you shouldn't give anything that's wrapped in white or white flowers. I also found something about that in wikipedia:
In Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, and Japanese tradition, white is the color of mourning and death.
