I don't get picked on, but I've had some negative experiences as a result of my interest in Japan and Japanese culture. Friends, family, even complete strangers have felt compelled to add their two cents worth of opinions.

Sometimes people see it as me not having a pride or interest in my own culture. I've been asked "What's wrong with your own kind?" Accused of being a "Wannabe gook" a "Goddamn nip lover" all that sort of thing. I've also had Japanese people I don't even know turn around and tell me that "No matter how hard you try, you can't be one of us, you know".

I'm not sure why people get so offended at me having a genuine interest in Japan, since it doesn't affect them in any way. Ironically I can speak both of my native tongues fluently (Maori and Cook Island) and trace my genealogy by to when the first waka landed in both New Zealand and the islands. Not many of my detractors can say the same.

If they say those things, then maybe you should think about who are your friends and who aren't.

The pic added goes to the ones whose ideas are in a box, to the ones who don't give respect to the one who doesn't fit in that box, stereotying one as I am. You'll soon learn your mistake in not getting the chance, because of Your Error to get to know as others have gotten to know, love, respect, and appreciate me for who I am and not for what you aim to make me.

Nothings wrong with liking anything.
Yet there are too many people that go a little over board,
making it somewhat of an obsessive sort of thing.

I don't get picked on for liking Japan, why would I?
most of my friends are interested if I talk about Japan, and those who
aren't interested... well I just don't talk about it with them...

I've been picked on for liking japan. just because I take japanese and sometimes I have trouble saying things in english lol.
But thats stopped really don't care about what i like and vice versa.

I feel the people who are like "IM IN LOVE WITH JAPAN" all the time and make it apparently of their Weobu ways then it's making them an open target to be made fun of.
I don't think it's funny, or they should be made fun of.

But honestly if japan is all you have to talk about then it's kinda sad...

That happens to me sometimes also. My friends and I are pretty much all interested in Japanese Culture and people call us weird because we like it so much. They also think that manga is stupid and sometimes when I'm reading it, feels a little weird cause sometimes they watch me and it gets pretty awkward. I dont really care though but it sometimes gets pretty annoying.

I don't really get picked on for liking Japan.
People do sometimes laugh at me for that but I stopped caring, really.

I had to use my Skullcandy headphone to listen to music today. Got strange looks from all sorts of people.
So what, I can afford one. Plus it's cool.

I usually don't get picked on. Most of the people I tell about my interest in Japan and its culture are some kind of surprised and then they find it rather interesting. My grandpa for example likes to listen to my stories about the Japanese culture.
