I personally am all for a lil nip/tuck lol, within reason of course. If you have the money for it and it boosts YOUR OWN self-confindence, then why not? With that said, the most important part of plastic surgery is a sense of self, imo. If you're unhappy with who you are as a person, on the inside, then all the boob jobs/nose realignments/liposuction in the WORLD won't make you happy. You'd be the same miserable person with a new face and body, but still miserable and 15 grand poorer lol.
As far as people changing their "ethnic" look because it makes them more "attractive", beauty is really in the eye of the beholder. In some cultures, being stick thin is the epitome of beauty, while in others it's revolting. It's all relative, no one is really right or wrong, it's just different. But change coming from self-hate is never healthy. I personally think some asiatic features are gorgeous, but I don't have to live in an asian woman's or man's skin, so I can't be the one to make the call on why she/he shoudn't want to change her/himself; I don't know what would annoy me about my appearance, not to mention that what every individual finds attractive is tailor-made. Is it sad that some feel that something that looks totally opposite of themselves is what's beautiful? Yeah it is, everyone has their own hang-ups, but u are what you are, no surgery can change that. But it's their face, not mine. Everyone has a degree of self-consciousness, and I've always thought it was horribly unfair for one person to judge another, appearance-wise, when they haven't walked a mile in their moccasins. If you're secure enough with yourself as a person, and there's something about your body that's always bothered you, (if your're good for it financially) why should you be made to feel bad about making changes that would make you feel better about yourself? If the risks are worth it for you, than who's business is it but your own? Love more. Hate less.

That's actually become very popular in my home country as well.
I visited last summer and almost every woman I saw looked like she had fake boobs. I don't mind it. I just don't like the idea on how everyone is starting too look alike in the battle of the " hottest". No matter how much surgery you get there will always be someone saying you're unattractive, can't satisfy everyones eye-candy needs, what's the use. |

Well... I think MissMisa is onto something. I think it's more of a mental state than a physical one that drives people to do these kinds of things. That's not to say that there aren't situations where surgery can't be used to improve someone's quality of life.
I think there are a lot of kinds of surgeries that go on, and have gone on for a long time. I know a lot of people who get laser surgery for hair removal (guys and girls). I also always see ads in magazines for breast implants and fat removal and that kind of thing. Whenever I go to a mall, I usually notice a place that specializes in minor surgeries like these as well. I think the point I'm trying to make is, there is and has been a lot more of this kind of surgery than this article gives credit for. Especially dental work... I was surprised to find out that some close friends had a number of false teeth at such a young age. As far as eyes go, I've heard of young girls "gluing" their eye lids like that. I think they might even have special kits for it... I'm not too sure. I know people also use fake eyelashes or fake bangs or partial wigs and stuff like that as well. I think wigs and make up might be part of the Japanese tradition at this point! I think surgery is just the next level of those things. I mean, there is certainly practicality to some of it, isn't there? Why not get laser hair removal on your armpits if you are going to shave them all the time? It costs money for razors and it takes time... so it might be seen as an investment to some people. Also, if someone has a certain skin condition that they cover up with makeup, maybe fixing the skin condition is a better solution in the long run. I just think that a lot of people look at these plastic surgery things too bluntly. It's not always about beauty. I don't think it's an entirely modern concept either. |

it surely Is pressure from the MEDIA-- marketing all these Procedures.
It shows also peer pressure. I think it very sad unless one has a real disfigurement or is unhappy with ones nose etc. I feel that it removes Character-- Miss Misa is very attractive young lady so surely no need to make changes. Its all about making money for all these agencies. I can understand some celebrities doing it and those who are truly unhappy with their own image-- but still think people should have more self esteem and be happy with who they are. The modern magazines also constantly advertise-- putting more pressure on those who are unsure about themselves. As for Boob jobs; If a young girl has implants-- what happens if she has children? Normally the breasts enlarge after that. Breasts were created as a way to feed babies. Be happy with who you are. |

I think that the number of procedures being done in Japan has gone up, but the procedures themselves tend to be minor procedures.
The common one is the eyelid one. The girls who most commonly have it done are, well, better off in life for it - as sad as it is to say. It isn`t the average girl that normally resorts to it, but the kind of girl who has VERY thin eyes. This can really be a depressing feature for a girl - it really can always look like they`re squinting or drowsy. I know a woman like this - she usually goes to a lot of trouble to glue her eyelids as, seriously, you can`t see her eyes if she doesn`t. The girls who tend to have more serious procedures usually have multiple things done. It`s not something that is all that common in the normal population. Think girls who make money off their looks. Korea, however, that is a completely different world apparently. Major surgery supposed to be totally normal and very common. |

i am against implants. i prefer if some girls actually got breast reduction surgeries since i really don't like huge boobs. also implants "feel" in hands like..well apples, or so i heard. here it is not popular so i have never touched one.
however. i am all for people getting plastic surgery for face or to cover up scars/other abnormalities as long as they don't go too far and reach the other ugly extreme. they feel better, i feel better for looking at them. win win however since here all the girls are incredibly hot, i probably won't see many of these changes among them. |
