Lightbulb WWII: japan dececive moment - 05-01-2009, 05:18 AM

As world war 2, being in Poland in Europe, Japan was having his own war between his neigboordhoods in half continent Asiatic, his primary and most rouft war was in Manchurria, China. Nevertheless, as german-sovietic pact was temporary and invasion to the Soviet Union was inmienent, Japan has a pact with the Axis Power which constit in antiComunism politics, but Japan has no intension to strike the soviets, he instead attack the U.S (??), which its inteligence service told them they has no chances to win a war in full scale vs U.S.

If Japan had not attack the U.S and decided, well either attack the soviets or do "nothing" (because they had a war), the profile would the :
Where they still be an Asiatic most powerful Empire?
Have they conserved all the territory gain? (Manchurria, Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Malasia, Philipin Islands, both Corea)

What do you thing?
Judge another history that it would have not been far away (more real than imagine)...

In other words Japan attacked the US to fill an urge to get involved in war or because of their pride?

So what did they gain by attacking the US instead of the soviets?

well, these is true: NO ONE KNOWS, NOT EVEN NO ONE KNOWS WHY OR FOR WHAT, thats the interesting part, theres no official respond from the Japanese Goverment why that action.

but imagine from one moment, what if they hadn't attack the U.S?

Then the atomic bomb would have landed on the soviets. The cold war would then graduate into a full scale war.

Japan didn't attack America because they wanted a prolonged war, they attacked because they believed that a complete victory at Pearl Harbor would eliminate America's ability to defend it's allies in the Pacific.

At the time, the West and South Pacific were heavily colonized by Europe. Holland controlled much of the Indies, Britain ruled India, Malaya, and Singapore, and the French ruled Vietnam and most of Polynesia.

Despite the importance of these colonial territories to their European masters, the countries of Europe were unable to properly defend them, as they were busy fighting the Germans face-to-face. The only western nation with a naval presence strong enough to neutralize Japan was America.

You also forget that early in the war, Hitler and Stalin had signed a non-aggression pact, meaning that Hitler promised not to invade the Soviet Union, so long as Stalin didn't interfere with Hitler's plans. Since Japan had allied itself with Germany, that pact would also have prevented Japan from attacking the Soviet Union.

The Japanese hoped that destroying the American fleet in the Pacific would either cause America to lose it's stomach for war against Japan (which would have been difficult with no Navy to fight with), or failing that, to at least delay America's ability to interfere with Japan's invasion of the rest of Asia until Japan had consolidated it's strength, and been able to use the resources gained to keep America out of the West and South Pacific.

Unfortunately for Japan, their victory at Pearl Harbor was not as decisive as they had hoped. US aircraft carriers were untouched, and many of the other ships were not completely destroyed, and were quickly repaired.

The American people never wanted to get into the World war. since they just wanted to be isolated. Roosevelt tried to get congress to go to war but they turned it down. There is a conspiracy theory about Pearl Harbor that FRD moved all the naval ships in the pacific to Pearl Harbor and making the battleships get lined up in a row and side by side while the Aircraft Carries was still out at sea. and Pearl Haber only has one out to the ocean making it harder for them to leave if any boats were about to get moving. It was just to good of a target to pass up.

The US was already providing men and material in both the pacific and european fronts prior to Dec. 7 1941 Pearl Harbor, dude? Look at the 'Lend Lease Act' (Mar1941') which provided war material to the UK? Americans had already enlisted in both the British Airforce RAF and other allied airforces and
fought. The most famous was all AVG known as 'Flying Tigers' July4 1941-42'
fought against the japanese in China.
Pearl Harbor average depth is 45ft. The Japanese sank several battleships but
because of the depth and location the majority of US ships were recovered and back in action . Same for said crew with only a short swim to ford island all of the above 'sunk' ships escaped to fight another day. Note exception of USS Arizona and the Shaw a destroyer. The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor
in hindsight is 'epic fail' failed to locate US aircraft carriers, failed to bomb fuel bunkers that provided fuel for the US Pacific Fleet operations. Did not bomb shipyard or drydocks located across Ford Island in Pearl Harbor?
