About half the Armies in the past that cross my mind never killed any civlians. The only ones that really did were the Vikings, Mongols, Huns, and other barbarian hordes. Most of ancient Greece, then Rome, also China, the Crusaders; they all believed it wrong to kill the innocent. I'm sure you'll go find some stories where I'm "wrong", point is, if you look at history, it was a shitload more chival than today. Leaders would meet face to face, they'd abide by rules of warfare, allow losers to collect their dead. All things like this. The eternal Saint is calling, through the ages she has told. Men who come home crying to their mother obviously went through something they didn't like, and they're obviously pussies. You can try and put me down all you like, but, at the end of the day, you're just some insecure nerd trying to justify his own patheticness. It wasn't my decision to leave the Army. So go fuck yourself. And your comment about not seeing combat was not true. You're still fogetting wherre I got all my money to pay to stay in Thailand. But I won't even go there; just know you're wrong, again. Quote:
Yes, most ring fighting is just sport. There are rules for safety. That doesn't change the attitude of some people. You know, guys like Mike Tyson actually tried to kill their opponents. It can be done with gloves on. It's what I try to do, and I've had people do it to me. It's often what seperates the better fighters. Finnally, if you;ve anything to add, perhaps you could care to point out where in my life I could have done better. Where I could have been this big man you think I should be better than I am now. Coz that seems to be what you're getting at. I'm not good enough to meet your standards (seems to me because you're even worse), so how about some tips? The taking of slaves amongst the Romans was common too if I remember correctly. The most famous "war crime" of the time was committed by the Romans when they "salted the Earth" (they literally spread salt over all the fertile land.. and it's where this saying comes from) of Carthage so that crops could no longer be grown in or around the city and took most of the city as slaves. It's described as one of the most spiteful and disgusting atrocities committed in the Ancient world!!! (During the rise of Rome, Rome and Carthage were like two superpowers of the ancient world... a power struggle that the Romans eventually won). I don't know anything about the Crusades or China... though the reputation of the Crusaders is not a favourable one. After all they sought to spread Christianity via the sword. |

Overall, however, I think all the Armies mentioned above are far better than todays. Especially Alexander; a man who clearly wanted war, not hate. Today, no one in the Army cares about sparing children or innocent people. They're all just selfish, and would rather a million others suffer than they break a single nail. I get it already! You're a self-proclaimed "warrior" or "fighter" or whatever. You love to fight and see yourself as some sort of modern-day Spartan! Kickboxing to you is more than just a sport... it's warfare. Furthermore you're one tough guy who knows how to handle himself in Thailand's underworld! I'm not denying that! I'm not even trying to compete with that! So will you give it a rest? The only point I wanted to make was that you don't have battlefield experience. I don't care if you THINK you have experience which is equivalent... you don't have it and that's the bottom line. |

Look at this from my perspective (the perspective of a great and mighty aspiring Warrior); some guy with a severe cross eye problem who has a personality like a 5 year old is trying to tell me that humans are naturally cowardly; in a crisis situation, they'll inevitably feel overwhelming fear that will cause psychological damage that will plague you for the rest of your life. Furthermore, there is no way around this. Training will not prep you, natural talent will not spare you. All who enter a battlefield are doomed to misery and none shall be spared... What should I be making of this? Should I really believe that humans are all naturally so pathetic? Furthermore, when I have quotes of men who have been to war, and they say similar things than me and back me up, and also claim they suffer no mental definciency due to battle; should I really be listening to you? I mean, by your own words, you're not qualified to comment on this, either... The eternal Saint is calling, through the ages she has told. The ages have not listened; the will of faith has grown old…

Okay, I guess you got me. I'd like to officially opologize to Ronin, and revise my stance; Due to new found eNerd links, I now believe the past is not much better than the present in terms of how civilians are treated during war. I now believe that, after all these thousands of years, nothing at all has changed. The present is equally as bad. Anyway, not always. Alexander did not hate his enemies. After he took Persia, a massive part of his Army became Persian, and he fought on the front lines with them. He also took a Persian wife; he did not hate his enemies. That's a big and important trait. A lot of men today are full of and driven by hate. The eternal Saint is calling, through the ages she has told.
