What do you think of the experiment with little black children who are given dolls - one black, one white - and who are asked, "Which do you think is prettier?" The result of the two experiments - one back in the 1960s, the other in a more recent time - shows a tragic mindset of the black children, as they pick the white doll. Is that something to be laughed off? Racism leads to genocides. Think of the Sunday school children who were killed in a bombing, simply because they were black. The Holocaust. Darfur. There are ethnic battles in China still today, ethic battles in which people are killed. Thankfully, in the USA - except for the various scatters of attacks - there isn't as much physical violence as there was once. These days, people in the USA are more focused on self-esteem and subtle racism. Racism needs to be smothered completely. If ignored and allowed to rise to the level it once was, then it WILL return to genocide. |

And yes, racism (in the general sense) does exist in me... As well as in you, and EVERYBODY. |

I know that racism exists. The only racism I saw, before I was 18, was racism against whites. I could have taken the philosophy that it was all right, that it didn't matter, that racism should be ignored. I didn't, simply because it's wrong. |

Blacks betrayed blacks. Whites didn't just happen to go to Africa and say "all you afrikanz are belong to us!" Some people need to catch up on some history. 猿も木から落ちる

Yeah, I was pretty hostile to you when I thought that you believed some races are more evolved than others. I hadn't realized my hostility came out, though. Sorry. Now that I know you didn't think that way, I'm not being hostile anymore, am I? You're absolutely right. Internalized racism is something everyone suffers from. What I want for myself is to be aware of it. When I see a white person, I don't want my automatic thought to be, "That person is racist." (That's just one example I'm comfortable enough to admit to. Believe me, there are many more.) Unfortunately, because I was conditioned in this society, that IS a feeling that I have. I wasn't even aware of it until last year, when I had a discussion about racism and internalized racism. It's wrong. It's disgusting. It's something that used to be in my subconscious. It's something that I am so glad I'm aware of now. I think that people should be aware of their subconscious beliefs and attitudes towards others. It's these subconscious thoughts that control how we act and think consciously. Why shouldn't we be aware of the fact that we're subconsciously racist, and why shouldn't we do something about it? |
