I feel like there's a double standard that's been set not only

on this forum, but in the society I now live in. Terms such as "crackers" and "white trash" are considered completely offensive, but words such as "negro" and "nigger" are seen as all right to use - in many races.

What about the word "negro"? "Negro" was once used to describe the black population, but since the 1960s, it's been considered a racial slur and extremely derogatory.

If you see or hear a racial slur used, what do you do? Do you use racial slurs, and if so, why?

See, it appears as if the difference between African Americans and all the other ethnicities in America is that you're still using slavery as an excuse, and won't move on. Other ethnicities have suffered yet they moved on. They didn't use waste their time on excuses and instead worked for their successes. Yes, I am. Speaking as someone who will benefit from affirmative action, I still maintain that it is unfair. Clearly you harbor some grudge towards people who have done nothing wrong. No one from that era (U.S.) is still alive today. I will admit, I've met countless Caucasians who are incredibly intelligent yet are unable to procure funds for a decent college education. For simply being 1/8 Native American, I will receive a scholarship and a free ticket to a university in Colorado. What happened to working and earning for things?

Yeah, that black teenager is very brave. I also love watching CNN's Black in America. There was a principal who really worked as hard as he could to make sure that every single one of his inner-city students attended college. There's a 100% rate of students attending college at his school. Beautiful, isn't it?

I'm sorry if you think that I'm using excuses. I wasn't aware that I was defending myself from something, and that I was saying, "but my ancestors were slaves." If I gave that response or implied that in some way, then I'm sorry.

What I am saying is that I think people ought to be aware of subconscious racism. As burkhartdesu said earlier, we also suffer from internalized racism. I believe that people should be aware of their personal prejudices.

No one is still alive from the slavery era, but people still suffer as a result of slavery. "To say that slavery makes an "impact" on our society today is a gross understatement. Although slavery is technically and legally over, the ramifications are enormous."

Here's some random trivia: did you know that "caucasian" means that people of paler skin are inherently smarter? Caucasian is a Dirty Word.

I've never heard of that before, but I guess with that, I think we would have to look at the percentage of white people on welfare and the percentage of black people on welfare. The populations aren't the same size, so if there are more white people than black people, then there will be more white people on welfare. If there's a higher percentage of white people on welfare, then I would be pretty surprised. I've heard the contrary to that before.
