Sure people have also called white people crackers and white trash. Those are also very stupid things to say. I mean, we EAT crackers. We're not them. And white trash? Some white people aren't even white looking.Let alone trash.

*Sighs* Like bELyVIS said, there are always going to be racial slurs. The best thing you can do, is ignore them and get on with your life.
I've never heard white crackers and white trash, thankfully. Unfortunately, in my previous post, I used it to make a point. :/ I could've made my point without using offensive words like those, though.

Hmm... I've got to agree with you. You didn't have to be this blunt, but I'm sure this is what everyone's thinking.

These words will always be here, so no point in even acknowledging them.
Negro is not a racial slur. It's a term used to refer to black people. Just because some people used it as a racial slur sum 100 years ago, doesn't mean that's what everyone means when they say it. You're wrong.

"My thing, using ethnic slurs will reflect a society in which racism still exists. Meaning that not everyone will have the same opportunities."

Racism does still exist, why act like it doesn't? I don't understand why people such as yourself try to beat around the bush. Racism is always going to exist everywhere. In the nicest way I can possibly say this, get over it.

"Why do you think black people "always pull the racial card?" Also, though slavery no longer exists, the idea that black people are inferior is not."

Hmmm... are you serious? You are a perfect example. Coming on to a forum about Japan and talking about racism. We weren't talking about racism before you came. So why bring it up? You want a reform, yet you keep bringing up the same thing over and over. Why not let it die? You're wrong.

"That's a nice, optimistic outlook - except racism still exists today. Yeah, you're right. We should be thankful that we can use the same water fountains, bathrooms, schools, etc. Still, racism today is a lot more subtle. Have you heard of Henry Louis Gates Jr. and the controversy surrounding him lately? Or the pool in Pennsylvania? There's a lot these days showing how subtle racism is these days."

You're exactly right. It does still exist today. Why even say it? It's like saying "The grass is green." or "Airplanes fly." Of course they do. And of course racism is. There are some races that I don't particularly care for. It's not a flaw in being black, or white, or Jewish, or Mexican, it's a flaw in being a human. And a flaw that will always be here. No matter how liberal you want to be, this will never change.

So please...... just give up.

whoa. Umm... hate to burst your bubble, but I've seen so many white people pull the racial card too. Trust me, when I say that just because it was used years and years ago as a way to describe African americans, doesn't make it right. It's like saying that the word GAY is ok to use to someone because it was used to long ago. Same with queer. (gay=happy and queer=weird) ((Just in case))

Acknowledging these words, and bringing up an age-old argument, is not the solution to eliminating them.

If you don't care, then why are you reading and replying to this topic?

I disagree. If everyone just gave up, then I'm pretty sure I'd still be a slave. This is a passionate issue for many people. Many study race relations in college and graduate school. It's important to many. Just because you don't care doesn't mean it's not important.

"Negro" is an ethnic slur. Here's an article why:

Is “Negro” a Slur? | Friendly Atheist by @hemantmehta

I would like to talk about racism. I'm a member of this forum, just like you. I have the right to discuss what I want to talk about. If this was against the rules of this forum, then this topic would've been deleted. Why do you have such a problem with this topic?

"Pulling the race card" means saying, "it's because I'm black!" when a person gets a bad result. For example, if I were to get a bad grade on my report card, if I said, "it's because I'm black," that would be pulling the race card. That has a negative connotation. I'm simply discussing race.

So, basically, you're admitting to be racist as you're saying that you don't like this topic.

I wonder why you don't like this topic.

Why do you not particularly care for some races?

How old are you? 12? You're making no sense whatsoever.

English is full of words with double meanings. Gay, being one of them. Not sure of the point your trying (and failing) to make.

Yeah, I know. x_x It's because, on another thread, I saw someone say, "What's up, negros?" And no one really seemed to care. So, I decided to write, "What's up, white crackers?" to see if anyone would get upset about that, even though they didn't care about, "What's up negros?" It was unnecessary of me.

Though, interestingly enough, suddenly, "What's up, crackers?" wasn't okay...

burkhartdesu: No, not at all. Being aware of it is necessary, though. Talking about it - dialogues and discussions - promotes understanding and awareness, in my opinion. Although there are a lot of flamers on this thread, maybe someone will read something written here. Maybe someone that didn't know "negro" is offensive to a lot a people knows that now. Maybe someone who didn't know where "nigger" came from knows that now.

For me, this is just about education for everyone - myself included. I like teaching. I love learning.
