In World War 2 the equipment was the deciding factor. The Germans surrendered after the battle of Stalingrad only because they didn't have the supplies to continue. Firstly, the Germans penetrated into the Soviet Union too quickly for their supplies to catch up, and the long distance between Germany and Stalingrad (nearly 1000 miles) made the supply line difficult to secure and open to attack. As a result of the lack of supplies, the German attack faltered, and the German soldiers had to endure a Russian winter for which they were ill-prepared. This delay gave the Soviet Army time to regroup and reorganize, and the rest is history.

And the last fact, we can't forget that Germany and the Soviet Union were allies (both having signed the Ribbentrop-Molotov Pact, or German-Soviet pact), before Hitler betrayed the pact, and invaded. People don't seem to realize that the Nazi Germans were Socialists (National Socialists, or Nazi for short). As part of this pact, Germany was to supply the Soviet Union with manufactured goods, whilst the Soviets were to supply Germany with the raw materials it needed to conduct it's war.

As a result of this alliance, and with the approval of Hitler, the Soviet Army occupied Eastern Poland, and militarily invaded Finland. The Soviets then occupied the Baltic States, and took Northern Romania as well.

Yes, the Soviets were wonderful "allies" in the war, weren't they?

No. They just burnt all their towns down and let the enemy starve and freeze before defeating them in battle.

And their supposed allies as well - at least the ones they didn't line up and shoot or send to prisons in the "motherland" to torture.

Every one is going to assume thier side did the most anyway, so it's pointless really to argue over it.

By the way, being from the army qualifies me more about what the army actually has, than those who weren't in the army and have to get info from the internet or histroy books. It's kinda like NFL players know more about how the NFL works than people who aren't in the NFL.

Yes, but two NFL teams both say they're better at each other. You didn't get my point.

I spent quite a few years in the Army myself, as did others in my family. What unit were you in, and when did you serve?

I think you mean biased american media, movies, pop culture. Not people who actually study history.

Yeah, yeah, the idiot soviets saved the world from Hitler developing the bomb first. They saved us by stopping him at Stalingrad, yeah yeah. Had they not conspired with them in the beginning to cut up Poland, they wouldn't have had to sacrifice 20million for defense of the motherland. Then that good guy Stalin kills another 20 million while collectivizing his empire. Heroes? Are you kidding me? The soviet leaders brought it upon themselves and sacrificed their best and brightest because of their own stupidity, arrogance. Then their genocide in the Ukraine, on their "own" soviet people?

Yes soviet soldiers were heroic, undeniably so. But the Soviet Leadership was as hapless as Hitler with a hangover.

More than half of Hitler's army was killed by Soviets. Enjoy your invalid post.
