Explain how President Obama misrepresented you by bowing his head to the emperor.
Thought by many meaning the critics of his action.

The president isn't going to be impeached for this nor should he.

He didn't "affend" me personally but obviously it did to some. But I agree with the Kyodo News view from the ABC news piece.

"Kyodo News is running his appropriate and reciprocated nod and shake with the Empress, certainly to show the president as dignified, and not in the form of a first year English teacher trying to impress with Karate Kid-level knowledge of Japanese customs.

"The bow as he performed did not just display weakness in Red State terms, but evoked weakness in Japanese terms....The last thing the Japanese want or need is a weak looking American president and, again, in all ways, he unintentionally played that part."

Politically, many don't like seeing the leader of the free world bow to anyone. The bow in this case, a Japanese custom greeting of humbleness, clashes with other thoughts on what a bow means - as your previously defined. Come on, didn't you ever watch Superman II where they said the president wouldn't bow to anyone but the the three super villians made him. Its just the west mindset ^^/

Read the ABC piece for some thoughts from both sides of this.

My only goal here was to make you read and quote fox news. My work here is done.

The "irony" is that the Japanese I have talked to found it to be a sincere gesture, and the criticism honestly bizarre.

I spoken with several of Japanese friends today abroad and local and they are honestly confused about all the hysterics over this. I couldn't for the life of me offer a good excuse as to why people are so angry over it which in its self is depressing, all i could give them was the standard BS that most Americans are not stupid just misinformed. The comments iv seen today are actually quite frighting. They range from Americans bow to no one we are the worlds most powerful country to who cares what other nations think they should be bowing to us.

MMM brings up a good point what if it were reversed and the emperor visiting the US refused to shake the presidents hand? Oh id love to see that one cause then we could call out all the hypocrites.

This will be forgotten in a few days as soon certain elements get a hold of something to keep themselves entertained and proceed to make a buck.

I'm sure he's satisfied that Obama at least tried to be polite by bowing. As a representative of a whole country, Obama should have been better trained in greeting though, and should have known not to shake hands unless a hand was offered to him first.

But Americans should learn that such a simple show of respect goes a very very long way. If it was the other way around and it was our tradition to bow to our leaders, and if someone didn't bow to the president, it'd be a very different story.

Yes, America and Japan had a war, it's all in the past. Now we work for unity. If a bow is a step forward in peace, then for the sake of peace bow! Get over your pride, which is so ever preached as being a sin.

I really think most of the people saying that it was incorrect to bow to the EMPEROR OF JAPAN lack a bit of knowledge. Even if Obama was a peer to the Emperor, he's still in the Emperor's country, in his own home. I can't believe how much criticism there would be if the Emperor did not shake Obama's hand in America, there'd be an uprising.

We would probably declare war. what pisses me off is when i go overseas the shit i get for being American because of arrogant jackasses the very same jackasses who are turning this into an witchhunt. This kind of reaction only serves to reinforce the image abroad that all Americans are arrogant.

Why not, it's a sign of respect.
You can bow without showing that you are inferior.

Blame the others!

The reason why Obama is criticized has nothing.

Obma did the greetings that conformed to international courtesy for His Majesty the Emperor.
He will hold greetings same for Queen Elizabeth.

Exactly. A good bit of Americans prove that image wrong in the way they think/act, but people outside of America don't see how those people think/act. They see things like these critics.
