Come on, didn't you ever watch Superman II where they said the president wouldn't bow to anyone but the the three super villians made him. Its just the west mindset ^^/ Read the ABC piece for some thoughts from both sides of this. My only goal here was to make you read and quote fox news. My work here is done.

The "irony" is that the Japanese I have talked to found it to be a sincere gesture, and the criticism honestly bizarre.

I'm sure he's satisfied that Obama at least tried to be polite by bowing. As a representative of a whole country, Obama should have been better trained in greeting though, and should have known not to shake hands unless a hand was offered to him first.
But Americans should learn that such a simple show of respect goes a very very long way. If it was the other way around and it was our tradition to bow to our leaders, and if someone didn't bow to the president, it'd be a very different story. Yes, America and Japan had a war, it's all in the past. Now we work for unity. If a bow is a step forward in peace, then for the sake of peace bow! Get over your pride, which is so ever preached as being a sin.

I really think most of the people saying that it was incorrect to bow to the EMPEROR OF JAPAN lack a bit of knowledge. Even if Obama was a peer to the Emperor, he's still in the Emperor's country, in his own home. I can't believe how much criticism there would be if the Emperor did not shake Obama's hand in America, there'd be an uprising.
