seriously these people need to get a life. I am so tired of this. You would think they would have something better to do like running the country than nitpicking at every little detail. The arrogance is overwhelming some of the comments are down right embarrassing. I bet if we reversed the situation and asked if a leader of nation should bow before president the response would have been different.

Critics criticize. And it only continues the fine tradition of building up someone solely so they can be torn down again. Nothing new.

It's unsurprising, really. They're Americans, their arrogance and self proclaimed superiority of others is something that they're born with. Much like the British being born prejudice to others.

I found it amusing how they kept saying that it's a disgrace to the Americans who fought in the war against the Japanese. God forbid we all get on with the Germans, and with almost every race out there, right?

It's a shame. Obamas' bow WAS wrong, and the Japanese emperor no doubt was amused. But seriously, who cares? I'm sure the Japanese Emperor was understanding to the fact, like Obama would be understanding if the Emperor flew to America, and made a jarring mistake.

He could have thrown up on the guy. That would have probably been worse.

I forgot all about that! It was a Bush Senior moment.

This just seemed like a "Gung ho" movie moment.Even though this is all harmless and obviously a slow media day their is no real harm done.

I think the media is just having a knee jerk reaction to the other past Obama moments while doing similar things to other nations that America isn't really friendly with.

I bet we could insert a number countries and its people into this sentence besides America and England. They are born with?

Every country and its people have their prejudices against different country people. I can find Japanese with prejudices and arrogant superiority against another people. Aka Japanese and Koreans.
It goes all different ways.

Wars and bad blood between nations still exists and world wars were really not that long ago. Obama was just trying the JAapnese custom of greeting, whereas bowing means very different things in different context and cultures. It was, like you said, inappropriate but still no harm done. I just wonder where are Obama's advisers. I mean the president reading straight from a Japan travel guide?

Let's be clear. "Americans" did not go crazy. Conservative critics who are paid to comment and criticize everything the president does in order to fill a 24 hour news day went crazy.

Keep in mind that I am also British. Aye, every country has it's prejudices, but I'm fairly certain that each country has a certain that is more prominent than the rest.

I know that wars were not that long ago, but that was in a different generation when the culture of the world was different. To say that bowing to an old enemy is disrespectful is like saying that being civil to an old rival is disrespectful to your own morals.

Yes, they have a history. But bringing it up as an excuse is disrespectful in itself.
