One holiday that's overlooked also... Festivus lol

From Seinfeld:
Frank Costanza: "And at the Festivus dinner, you gather your family around, and tell them all the ways they have disappointed you over the past year!"

Frank Costanza: "The tradition of Festivus begins with the Airing of Grievances. I got a lot of problems with you people! And now, you're gonna hear about it. You, Kruger. My son tells me your company STINKS!"

George Costanza: "Oh, God."

That is what usually gets me rather riled and obnoxious about this holiday.

If it was strictly a religious observance I would be fine with it. But it is 99.9% commercial crap. And there are millions of people who spend what they don't have, on people they don't care that much about (and often don't care about them), to give them things they don't need, all because of peer pressure and guilt. And to have this done in the name of someone's god is obscene to me.

My only concessions in the recent past were donations to charity in my nieces names ..... until they failed to appreciate the gesture.

I now give presents and donations when there is a need or inspiration and I can afford it. Not when someone else tells me "I should or must".

BTW I am not really a total grinch.

I light my menorah (sometimes) in celebration of its representation of the struggle for religious freedom.

And I do celebrate the Winter Solstice - by gathering with true friends and making donations of food and clothing; NOT TOYS.

Good food, good company, no work, focusing on others' happiness more than my own, and the birth of my Savior --

Some reasons I love Christmas and the surrounding season.

Insane traffic, inane people, hyper-commercialization, relatives I have to put up with once a year, and proliferation of sucky music --

Some reasons the Christmas season irritates me.

When I measure the reasons, I always find that, to me, Christmas is lovely more than it is annoying. But I am just a sap, after all.

So, MERRY CHRISTMAS! to all on the JF, and may you enjoy your Holiday, whether you are observing one or not.
