What has JF given you? - 12-15-2009, 06:27 AM

I've been on and off this site for nearly 3 years now and for one reason or another I caught myself thinking about the reasons why I kept coming back here and the effects this website as well as the community has had on me through out this time.
So I looked at the things I have received from JF (possibly trying to justify all the sleepless nights I've spent here ) and would gladly read about your own thoughts and experiences here.

As for me, I joined JF at a time when I was very passionate about learning various aspects of Japanese culture (as well as the language). Now, to be completely honest, this passion has faded with time. Yet, the information and people here, served as a source to satisfy my desire for knowledge which kept me coming back.
Apart from that, these forums provided me with interesting discussions, which helped me expand my knowledge of English language greatly.
It also created an impulse for my writing-urge, which has continued to grow ever since and slowly, but steadily has formed the writer within me.
Then there are the people, many of whom, I consider to be my friends now.
And of course, it has helped me understand Japan, it's people and culture much better.

Come to think of... maybe all those nights haven't been spent in vain after all...

Anyone else care to contribute?

plain and simple, it's given me people to talk to...

forums are naturally good places to have discussions because people are anonymous and so you can say what ever the hell's on your mind with no social repercussions .. and such that i've had some good discussions and debates on here that i couldn't have held elsewhere

nice to see you Ex btw... it's been so damn long

Initially I searched and joined to take me back to my six years in Japan which I didn't want to lose.

I was originally suprised to see a "Japan Forum" being full of non Japanese, although then I realised that it was more for people interested in Japan and anything related.

Of course their is a lot more to keep learning about the country, and I'm sure as the genrations change, the country will constantly change.

I've learnt about the world of make up, people's opinions on discrmination, racism, telephones, music, video games, what people want and expect from Japanese, the likes, the dislikes, the fondness of the Japanese culture, the appreciation of Japanese gizmos, gadgets and inventions, and all the other good things that means JAPAN.

Cheers - Oz

it's kind of sad, but jf really reminds me of Digimon.. our first season was awesome. I can't begin to describe what made it so good, but i know it was very different.. a lot crazier as well, but a lot tighter too.
nowdays it feels like us older lot are the kids from season 1, venturing from time to time back to the digital world but to regain some old nostalgia.. but as such it has changed.. again, i know not how it has, but the atmosphere is almost too new for my blood... but i will remain on for the few moments i will get to talk to an old member from ages past... such is the case with this thread...

god i love and hate nostalgia... it always makes me feel so sad, probably because of the prospect that things will never be like that again
