Avatar was boring and predictable. The graphics were good, but not enough to salvage the movie. The characters were flat and boring. Jake was a Gary Stu, being disabled and having little to no knowledge of Pandora or the Na'Vi, he was still able to become accepted whereas no other Avatar had been. And he didn't even bat an eye! The rest of the humans only showed up when Jake needed them.
I didn't like how they portrayed the army as the badguys. While I don't agree that they should have done what they did, it was horrible that they portrayed each and every person as being cold hearted. In one scene, while they were discussing the stratgies they were going to use against the Na'Vi, there were people cheering! I'm not sure how realistic it is to cheer on plans to destroy the home of an innocent race, but having them react that way makes them seem like cold-hearted assholes rather than human beings. The only thing they expanded on in the Pandora world were the landscapes, and I already said the graphics were good. But outside of that, there were few animals and plants that were introduced, and there was no variety to the world. That gave the world a fake feeling in my opinion. Also, for a movie that bashed Pagan religions, it really had a Pagan feel to it. There were a lot of flaws to the movie, and it was ok at best. I didn't fall in love with it, though it was trying its best to capitivate me. I did like the emotion that came from the Na'Vi when the tree fell - that was the only scene I really liked. The movie is too overhyped for its own good - I wouldn't see it again if I had the chance to. |

I think it was pretty decent how they allowed a "warrior" to join their world. It happens in many films, books and stories where one person, the most unlikely person is chosen for a greater purpose.
Were we watching the same film? Not everyone in the army was portrayed as cold hearted; the woman left ! I'm guessing you, or someone close to you is in the Army, that's why something like that "upset" you. It's not something new for a room full of armed forces talking to be cheering at the idea of killing and defeating an enemy. To be honest, I'm pretty shocked you thought there was no variety to the world. The variety and imagination expressed in the film was one of the things I liked about the movie... Maybe it's because I, myself have no imagination, but gosh, I'm still surprised, lol. |

My dad just called me and asked me if I want to go and see this at the cinema on Sunday with his girlfriend and a bunch of other people. I'm not really interested in this movie but I wanna experience seeing a movie in 3-D for the first time, so I think I'll go. I hope it doesn't turn out to be a waste of time.

It's "Dances With Wolves" In Space, it's really that simple. The graphics are awsome and the storyline is decent, despite it's predictablity.
True I didn't like how they portrayed the troops, but historically troops can be pretty aggressive, after all they are trained to kill. I'm ex army and we weren't trained to negotiate. There is some historical context with the plotline in one major part. The incident about Hometree, what happened with the Navi and why is very similer to what happened with the Souix over the Black Hills. Man is allways motivated by greed, that wont change. No matter how much you try to be PC about it man will try to dominate a region. History prooves this over and over again, so yes, humans probaly would treat the navi that way. That's the strange thing, humans as individuals can act almost anyway imaginable, but humans in mass are very predictable. |

What a steel-bladed sentence, huh ! .*We weren't trained to negotiate* ....well, it works pretty good when you deal with some desert or forest tribes. Napalm, combat helos, armored personnel carriers..... And Mr Cameron perfectly showed it in his latest movie.

People are missing the point with the military in Avatar.
At the beginning, he himself says that the military on Pandora are no longer a part of any major faction, and instead, are basically mercenaries. It's not the army. It's a group of mercenaries. |
