Were we watching the same film? Not everyone in the army was portrayed as cold hearted; the woman left ! I'm guessing you, or someone close to you is in the Army, that's why something like that "upset" you. It's not something new for a room full of armed forces talking to be cheering at the idea of killing and defeating an enemy.
Nope, never known anyone in the army. The woman leaving gave me a sexist vibe, tbh. She was the only woman in combat if I remember correctly. It was like they were saying men are for combat, and women are for showing compassion. But that's just imo.
Other than the woman, there was no one who cared for the Na'Vi, unless they were side character, and in that case they didn't make any sort of impact and didn't show up much in the movie.

To be honest, I'm pretty shocked you thought there was no variety to the world. The variety and imagination expressed in the film was one of the things I liked about the movie... Maybe it's because I, myself have no imagination, but gosh, I'm still surprised, lol.
Examples?
I gave examples of lack of variety, and I've yet to see any examples proving variety outside of landscapes.

lol, why are you replying as though we're debating this? I just gave an opinion. I'm not trying to "prove" anything

But, what the heck, I'll play along... The idea of the forest communicating with each other as though it was one organism was genius for me. Or how they had to connect to animals and other life forms through their pony tails! Things like that, I've never seen before, and I would have never imagined it myself... so for me, all of it is great imagination!

I haven't seen Avatar yet, and although I was mildly interested while watching the trailers I don't think I'll get to it. If I don't see it in the theaters chances are I won't bother at all. I agree with previous posts that if it's not seen in the theaters, then it's not a good idea to watch it on DVD or as a rental. The CGI's look fantastic, and if I was in the mood for a momentary escape from reality it might be a great choice.

I saw multiple women in the army. Multiple. Maybe not in the action, but that's just a coincidence. You can't look into such things, and take them so seriously. Some things are deliberate, but not everything.

He was accepted because they had never seen a warrior of the other clan before. Also, he was chosen by Eywa, and that's like god's word to them. He was no doubt brought in because they could learn more about the humans this way.

Not everything was explained, I agree. But all you have to do, is sometimes sit and think about it. Strategically, if not militarily. What benefits did it have for them? What about the benefits for others? Who did it benefit in the long run?

Then again, you're a woman, as you said, you're more compassionate, and not cut out for military thinking ;D

i actually went and saw it twice, both times 3d. purely based on the fact my youngest brother threw up from eating too much pizza before we went in 2/3s the way into the film, [just before hometree gets destroyed]

I totally fell in love with it, and sat through the credits, sighing. I loved the landscape, and the romance. Im also partial to machine gun scenes...

Termogard; "Shrug" An army is what it is, merc's or otherwise. They kill, destroy and generally break stuff, that's what they do. Now yes, some armies have a better chain of command and can controle how the troops respond to certain situations. In the end though it's still a WMD, who's primary objective is to destroy the enemy.

The Navi's army was much the same really, sure it was defensive in nature, brought together as a protective measure and rightfully so. However, it's base objectives where identical, destroy the enemy.

It's why leaders generally consider deploying armies a last resort, cause once they are in the field, diplomacy is pretty much over. Well, leaders that aren't out to take over everything. Unfortuantely, for every Ghandi there's several Ceasers
