Ignore him, or leave quietly.

Ah, it definitely wont be the same without him. He felt like my (and probably many other members) connection to Japan.

What about when he's saying things that will give other people the poor impressions of you, and you feel that not falling into the trap will leave you with a bad reputation. How do we deal with these trolls? The "character assassination" types.

You have no idea of the lengths some trolls will go to.

But, outside of the individual forums they lurk in, they have no power. Leaving the forum is the obvious choice.

Given you have the ability to just leave, and leave them with their delusions of granduer, there's no other explanation other than they're extremely emotionally challenged people.

When you can just leave, yet still they think they have to persist, they're trying to do nothing other than stroke their own self.

Lost individuals searching for self and peer approval because they can't find it in real life.

I don't understand why these troublemakers aren't banned right away and for good. A few days makes no difference to them. There are many like Daffy (some worse, we all know who I mean) that keep coming back and doing the same thing over and over again. Quitting isn't a good option because then the trolls win.

I don't disagree with you. At the same time I can't read every post made, so when I heard about Nagoyankee's decision I was pretty surprised. I could have done something if I would have known.

I don't like the route of letting the troll win.

HOWEVER.

I think people here are taking a forum way too seriously. It's a forum, it's where you come to have fun. No one, and I mean, no one should make such a fuss about leaving the forum. No one. You leave, and you come back. Without telling anyone. I think some people on this forum need to step back a bit from the computer, and realise that the forum is a part of the flow of their lives, and not steers their lives.

Really. Seriously. A guy is leaving, get over it. We'll all live.
This completely ignores the fact that some members are much more productive and useful than other members. Most people on this forum don't contribute anything except their opinion; Nagoyankee actually contributed to the language section and helped a lot of us in immeasurable ways. It is a big deal that he has left because for every 100 users here there is only 1 native Japanese speaker, and an even smaller amount of native speakers who can also fluently speak and explain things in English.

Almost zero, and none (so far) that have put in the time and patience that Nagoyankee has. I really really hope he reconsiders.
