Don't use a spoon to eat rice. Use a fork.
Japanese and Chinese serve rice that has a bit of a stick to it when they give you chopsticks. It's not hard. Just make sure you're not trying with an unintended style of rice. You just need to practice for a while. It's no more difficult than learning to use a knife, fork and spoon properly. Oh, and BTW, the "unintended" style of rice I mentioned is not eaten with a spoon by the Chinese/Japanese as some bogans might imply. It's used for desert, mostly, in which case it becomes bound and sticky again.
Other Asian countries prefer the long grain rice for main courses, however. Such as Thailand, who do not like Japanese style rice. These countries traditionally eat with their hands, not spoons (which is where you might like to use a fork before lowering yourself). The eternal Saint is calling, through the ages she has told.
