Also, I'm really into the typical New York dialect of English. I don't like the whole Texan nor Valley thing. I love Ebonics too ; D [ ♥<-- Jordan's heart! \(Ò_ó)/ ]

BTW You're definitely a one off, in regards to singaporeans, they all seem to be very proud of their country. That grass is the greenest according to most of my Singaporean friends. =) You, seem to think otherwise. So, Do you have a Singlish accent? =) Quote:
Mychonny has a aussie accent, like Kylie! (Minogue!) I know what you mean by NYC accents, I have an obscene crush on Eddie Cahill (Det.Flack in CSI:NY) and I love the harsh Queens accent. It's so unique! "I'm sorry, but i must have given you the impression that I actually care about your opinions"

I'm no patriot, lol. Maybe the rules of peace and non-harsh-climates make it an ideal country, but I absolutely loathe Singlish and its ugly accent. Lots of mixtures are good but it's one like chilli and milk. I strongly believe language has to be spoken pure, accent and content-wise. I do speak Singlish on a normal basis and perhaps out of habit, and I also sometimes speak English with "twangs of Chinese"; the habit's dying fast though, since I'm dealing with clients from all walks of life, and the fact that I'm trying to get rid of it. You're from Britain, aren't you? I'd love to hear a British accent with those oriental twangs xD Sounds cute. O.o There's no such thing as happy endings, for when you find true love, happiness is everlasting.

When I speak, I always use Scots English. So somebody from outside of Scotland may struggle to understand what I'm saying. But typing on here, I always use, like, the 'Queen's English', & am as fluent as if I'm speaking it. It's odd. I mainly do that so everybody understand's what I'm saying. e.g. Scran time. Back in haulf an oor. lol

I have a friend that does what you does. You Singaporeans are charmeleons at accents. When my friend is around british people, he has a british accent, but when he's around singapore/malaysian people, he HAS this totally totally fobby singlish accent. I think dialects and accents are fabulous. so much variety depending where you live or who you mix with.
I love someof the west country accents very much-- where I live there are many ex Londoners-- so there is always that kind of slightly cockney sound. treasure your individuality. In the olden days the BBC always used presenters with so called POSH accents. Nowadays we have presenters or newsreaders---- from various places in the UK-- so it adds variety and spice. I admit to disliking some accents but I believe they are important and precious to retain. surely every country must have individual ways of speech too. When I lived in Scotland as a Sassenach-- the Scots people definitely exaggerated their own accent so I couldn't understand a word they uttered. It was really funny. One thing that intrigues me is that even when people travel far from their own land for a long time, many still retain their original way of speaking so that others will ask them where they are from. Yorkshire in particular which I love. Long live our accents. |

oooohh I just came across this thread!! YAY for accents!! I have a Boston accent and have been told I sound like I come from New York or Jersey..lmao!! I find that when I'm not paying attention that I have a very lazy way of speaking but, when I speak to my son I make it a point to speak properly.
I love a British accent on either sex but, my favorite male accent is probably Scottish.....so hot!!! I play on X-Box live sometimes and you can catch a lot of groovy accents from the people you play with there. quick story...I was on the city bus yesterday and was sitting next to some random woman. Halfway through the bus ride, the woman says to me in the most beautiful, proper English accent...."Excuse me, love. Do you have the time?" I answered her and she replied..."Very good, thank you. Have a lovely day" I was smiling the rest of the day! Peace Love Recycle |

@dogsbody - A classic example of our Scottish humour. lol. I was thinking of doing something similar when I went down to Birmingham for a gig, but decided against it
