Guess people forgot that Toyota has other venues besides automobile: finance and shipping.

too bad for the reputation of toyota as one of the worlds top car manufacturer. But as what CEO toyoda promised they will make several improvements on quality assurance but damaged has been done. Our family is not a big fan of Toyota, we go with bmw and honda.

Damage has been done. But like a broken finger or a computer virus, repairs can happen.

I don't think there is any expectation that this problem will put Toyota out of business.

True. But it seems the repairs aren't working in this case. Complaints are coming in.
One can only hope that the out of all the recalls being done, that these are simply mechanic errors in the repair.

US National News:

FOXNews.com - Drivers Complain That Toyota's Fixes Didn't Work

Toyota Recall Fix Not Working, Drivers Tell Federal Safety Agency - ABC News

Gas pedal still sticking and the brake and gas failsafe not completely working at moderate speeds.

Chilling 911 call minutes before crash: note this is before Toyota acknowledged the problem. Many stories like this are breaking all around the US and continue to climb.
Needless to say that neither the 911 operator nor the driver or occupants knew how to stop the vehicle.Warning: This audio is graphic and shocking. Before Toyota could be bothered to recall 3.8 million Toyota and Lexus cars that they had known for two years had a problem, an off-duty state trooper and three members of his family had to die in fatal car crash when the gas pedal got stuck on the floormat.

Toyota: 911 Call Of Family's Fatal Lexus Crash Due To Gas Pedal Stuck On Floormats - The Consumerist

I would avoid listening to the audio, but the comments to this speaks volumes as to how wide spread these problems were through an Internet like underground. At this time 10/2009 Toyota was forced to admit there was a problem with only certain models and that the floormats were the problem.

In regards to the gas pedal or brake fixes not being the problem, seriously, three strikes and you are out people. After seeing more stories like this, I'm hestitant to even ride as a passenger in a late model Toyota.

Toyota isn't the only company with acceleration issues.

I think this puts the controversy into a little bit of perspective.

Regulators Hired by Toyota Helped Halt Investigations
Bloomberg, Feb. 12 2010

It turns out that Banks aren’t the only entities who have managed to corrupt the political process and end up hurting themselves and the public as a result. The world’s largest automaker has managed to make a mockery of the regulatory process as well.
Toyota North America hired several employees directly from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). These former government employees helped to end NHTSA probes into unintended acceleration occurring in some of the same vehicles that are now being massively recalled and which are apparently responsible for causing deaths. The probes were ended in 2002-03, and the employees consistently lobbied against any expanded inquiry into these issues over the past decade.-
