Next time put the actual link:
washingtonpost.com Also, next time expand more on your opinion. What do you think is ridiculous, the opinions of the writers of this editorial, or the content of their speculations? |

I don't listen to anything the washington post says. It's the precise mouthpiece of Washington status quo. Also, watch Joe Scarborough on MSNBC for the same. If you ever want to know the wrong side of things, read/watch either. Old Washington stuff (as opposed to the crackpot circus such as Limbaugh, Glenn Beck) that no longer will work in this new age.

Sorry, I forgot about these forums for a few days xD
But my thoughts on this are pretty basic. I don't want to live in any country in which the government can shut my internet off whenever they want because they want to. And I know that your response, along with other's, will be explaining that it won't be "just because they want to" and I understand that, but the truth is the government does not do the things they do for same reasons we think they do them for (did that make sense? My sentence was pretty messed up). I also heard that this was only a 'leak' and it had been leaked before, which to me (and I could be wrong about this) that means this is pretty much definitely not going to be passed, and I hope it won't be. |

This has to do with "innocent until proven guilty". If I am to be punished for illegally downloading something, then let the government do as it does in other criminal matters, collect evidence of my wrongdoing, and allow me to defend myself in court. I should not be punished without due process.
This ACTA nonsense is the government's way of pandering to the entertainment industry. Let's see how much money the politicians who vote for this legislation get in campaign contributions from the entertainment industry when all is said and done. If this is the "new age", we must remember previous "new ages" such as those which came to Russia, China, Germany, Japan, etc. "New" doesn't necessarily mean "better". You might think this to be nonsense, but it was a desire for "change" which brought these regimes to power. The majority isn't always right, and these previous regimes had ardent believers who were ordinary people. They thought they were doing the right thing, but history proved otherwise. |

And that ACTA bill has nothing to do with with that. I do want to live in a country that protects copyrights and punishes criminals. A drunk driver should lose his right to drive. A murderer should lose his right to walk freely in society. A thief who uses the Internet to traffic stolen materials should lose access to the Internet. |
