One of the interesting things about the paranormal is how many people have stories and experiences of it, like ghosts as an example. I never seek to deny that people have had experiences that they are unable to explain through normal science. That's not to say such experiences are unexplainable though.

One thing I do know is that 'seeing' is not always a case for believing. Every humans brain is unique and processes the information from their senses slightly differently. And there are all sorts of things which can affect how our brains process the information. All of us know that drugs for instance, especially hallucinogenics, can greatly effect how our brains process what we see. Other simpler things though like stress, strong emotions, lack of sleep, etc can also alter our brain chemistry and thus alter the way our brains process information. Some years back I did some work within a psychiatric ward in a hospital and some of the patients there certainly perceived the world around them in completely different ways than most of us would.

Also our upbringing and belief systems can greaty affect how our minds construct an image from what our eyes see. The point being that if you are open to the existence of ghosts then you are much more likely to see one at some stage than someone who is not. You can have 2 people see exactly the same thing and their minds can interpret what they see completely differently.

So I know that many people strongly believe that they have seen ghosts or other paranormal events and although I don't deny that is what they have seen I do not believe it provides any sort of objective or conclusive evidence for the existence of such things. Our minds work in mysterious ways!

I think that's the best explanation that anyone can give. I'm not all about religion or the "you'll be in a better place" BS. You just die and then someone else's life begins. It's as simple as that.

First you will have to tell me what makes you an individual.

Too many people spend money they haven't earned, to buy things they don't want, to impress people they don't like.

In the situation I described, I really thought I was dreaming or hallucinating. I would not allow myself to believe that my grandmother came back and walked through her house like she was saying good bye to it all. At least I didn't believe it until 20 years later I heard my cousin who I thought had been asleep through it, tell someone about experiencing it. We then went to the third one who had been in the room who confessed thinking the same as I had, that she was having a vivid dream. I can't say whether this was a case of telepathy allowing the three of us to share a single dream simultaneously, or if in fact our grandmother came back and said goodbye. I am open to either interpretation, I just know something very unusual happened that night.

Only an open mind and open heart can be filled with life.

I think a lot of it is bull***t.
I also think some of it is genuinely a mystery.

Do I believe in "ghosts" or "aliens"? I do and I don't. I believe there is a possibility that we may not know what exists; that science or our understanding of life can change with a single, profound discovery. What I certainly believe in is our desperation for knowledge as human beings. We find a certain comfort in believing knowing and a certain anxiety in void thereof. And it's that greed embedded in our nature that makes things like the paranormal incredibly complex -- or philosophically simple.
