Speaking of the Japanese BS channels, I was floored the first time I saw the title "BS NEWS" at a friend's house. Call me immature, but that one seriously got me.

I feel like I may have said it before, but sometimes I find that Japanese television audio is over compressed. It's like a constant barrage of noise. There's no soft and quiet, it's all just LOUD... ALL THE TIME. It gives me a headache, seriously.

Not that I was a fan of American television, but Japanese television is pretty ridiculous a lot of the time. Most of the stuff I seem to get stuck into watching at the in-laws is celebrities talking about bullshit. The worst part is that part of it might be interesting and educational... right when I start to think Japanese TV isn't that bad they segway into something entirely pointless and useless. It's like out of nowhere they'll switch to some 4 year old clip that used to be popular on the internet... the narrator kicks in and you can see the little facial expressions of everyone popping in and out of the corners as if I cared.

I don't watch Japanese TV at home... I just get glimpses of it whenever I go to peoples' houses or to the doctor's-- and I'm stick sick of it!

I'm honestly not a fan of either American or Japanese TV,
they are very different, and both appeal to what seems to be pure stupidity or a desire to be dulled into your couch, luckily neither of which I am or have.

I don't know about american tv realism, most the shows I've seen had pretty intense suspension of disbelief required to keep watching them, especially csi.

I agree with the irritating morality plots, seems like no one can tell a story without having to push some sense of morality on it's listeners. This is another example of how tv isn't realistic though, real life is hardly so moral haha.

Japanese tv... anime aside... doesn't seem to make much of an effort at hiding that it is a time-killer.

This is the first time I have ever heard someone say American TV has a moral agenda

(And on a side note, the term "American TV" seems a little silly to me, as there are hundreds of channels with thousands of programs... each it's own unique point of light or darkness on the TV galaxy. To say "I like American TV." is like saying "I really like this solar system we live in.")

Back to the moral agenda... More often than not, TV channels and shows are accused of being devoid of ethics and morals and are leading our children down a path of partying and drug-fueled destruction.

What shows do you find that are too preachy?

If there is a vampire show, who's the protagonist?
The vampire that drinks animal blood instead of human blood.
What would a cool but non-moral vampire show be like?
A group of vampires that gets away with all the killing and the drama stems from conflict between other supernatural entities or other groups of vampires.
All of which with complete disregard for the value of human life.

It's so twisted and perverse but morality is the underlying element in every american tv show and movie I see. Even Dexter, that doesn't need an explanation I assume.

I don't want this to turn into a "watch this show" thread, but True Blood is an interesting (and bloody and sexy) exploration of the vampire as modern racism model. It isn't necessarily original in that sense, but the exploration of the conflicts of the importance of personal freedom of the deep south, and the conflicts of the integration of vampires into society is really interesting.

I never thought I would have any interest in a vampire show, but True Blood (esp. Season 1 and Season 3) are really interesting.

I also never thought I would be interested in a zombie related show, but I am loving The Walking Dead, and Dead Set was a really great mini-series out of England.

Good point.
I strongly dislike any stories about vampires. A rather primitive cr@p.

I felt exactly the same way until I saw True Blood.

I must admit to being a complete sucker for anything to do with vampires. Read most of the books out there and seen most of the tv series and movies. I too like True Blood. The tv series is quite different to the books though.

I have never read the books, but the series is keeping me very interested.
