So if a guy wanted to burn a bunch of Redwoods..we couldn't discuss anything about the Redwoods, just the merits of burning or not burning said "non discussable woody plant"..How would you go about discerning wether burning or not burning said "non discussable woody plant", had merit or not if we didn't know what the thing was and why someone wanted to burn it?

Going back to the meat of it, a lot of people are tired of doublestandards in society and especially in the media. Mainly this consists of how watching mass protests and burning (insert country name) flags and bibles is commonplace, but the mere suggestion of burning a q'uran unleashes a hellstorm of public opinion.

I'm not a huge fan of burning anything- but it bothers me that there is such inequality. Its like political correctness equals some sort of genetic punishment sometimes.

The Double standard is probably because The US wont kill you because you burn the flag and generally christians won't either if you burn Bibles. The same can't be said about Muslims, who pretty much try to kill you if they even think you insulted something they consider sacred.

Wich is all hogwash really, I'm not the one insulted if you burn the Bible, Supposedly God is. God can handle himself last time I checked. Muslims shouldn't be bothered about the Quran, that's more Allah's jurisdiction, so if he's all bothered by it, he can do something.

I guess that in some way it is, but the principles that the U.S.A were founded by are probably different. Hmmm. thinking back, didn't all of this start to happen because of General Petraeus? I'm pretty sure that if he hadn't said anything about this it would't have become as big an issue as it is. Maybe?

But it's still religious at the end of the day. There is no difference to me.

I'd like to take time to forward people to JF's General Discussion rules:

2 - Language and topics:

2.1 Unnecessary and uncensored profanity is highly discouraged and may be edited or removed by a mod or admin. Excessive profanity may lead to other sanctions.
2.2 Racism, sexism and cultural intolerance of any form or shape is forbidden. Usage of terms such as "Japs" and "Niggers" will not be tolerated and will result in a ban.
2.3 The main language of the forum is English, however keep in mind that this is an international forum and not everyone will have a solid grasp of the English language. Intolerance and mockery towards grammar mistakes made by people whose native language is not English will not be tolerated.
2.4 Topics of religion and sexual orientation are not permitted.
2.5 The term "rape" is allowed only within a discussion about, or connected to the despicable crime it represents and only within the frame of definition that corresponds to the encyclopedic description of this term.
2.6 Advertisement within a post and/or user signature is not allowed.
2.7 Users who post pornographic material, or links to such will be banned.
2.8 Any opinions should be expressed as such.
2.9 Jokes or threats against individuals, their homes or home countries will not be tolerated.

Please keep this in mind, please. I love discussing about this topic, but there does not need to be any religious dogma or highly-opinionated jibberish--rules are meant to be followed so we all don't get into fights over what a single bigot is doing.

Talking about trees is not against the rules we all agreed to when we joined the site. Discussing religion is.

Saying a man wants to burn a Quran is not promoting a religious belief. Saying OOO is humanity's religious savior, and if you do not believe in OOO you will burn in hell is promoting a religious belief. If you don't see the difference, I don't know what to tell you.

The purpose for this thread is basically obselete, and the potential to start flaming still exists.
Can we please close this thread?
