Sashimister should be old enough to discern his own limits; if he was burning out and getting really grouchy, he should have taken a break from the forum, of his own accord, not take it out on others. I really hope next time someone has a vendetta, you'll take it up with the mods instead of attempting to resolve it yourself.
You are totally right. But it takes characters that are obsessed about the Japanese language and culture to offer a service like that for free. I'm definitely not doing it :P I have mixed feelings myself. But still, I think it's a loss when everything is summed up. As for FAQ, I meant one for common Japanese grammar points and things like that. Not sure if the current FAQ covers that though. It might. I don't really contribute to the forum very much. hehe.

I think the same thing, and I wouldn't do it, too. So, it is a loss, if he chooses to quit, but all we're just asking for is civil behavior.

Ah, okay. I think that's a good idea, if it hasn't been done already. Why don't you start one?

Because I'm a lazy bastard who only complain about other people?
Seriously, not like a blog or a FAQ page or anything. Just a thread for FAQ could have helped. Then it's just a totally random and irresponsible idea, I don't even know how things were before I came here

Lol, I really think it's a good idea. Like English and all other languages, Japanese is bound to have some common inconsistencies that people might interpret to be discrepancies. I think if that thread was a foundation, issues like this could have been avoided.

Cool. Let's suggest it then, the next time some very devoted Japanese guy starts to get a bit frustrated.

I don't know what he or I is requesting but if someone is getting tired of answering the same question over and over, maybe it's better they start a thread and write up a comprehensive answer for it so if someone comes up with the same question they can just point to that thread?

This is a toootaly random idea though. Maybe it has already been this way.

There was talk a while back of re-organizing the language forum a bit to address some of these issues. Like a separate beginner's Japanese thread for all the short easy questions like "what does this mean" or "how do i write this word" "translate my tattoo" 'put this in romaji" type stuff. Not only would this mean that users like myself could easily find questions we could answer and contribute more, but it means users like SM could focus on helping the advanced learners, which no one else could. And deal with less stupid. There were a couple of other suggestions, I don't recall what...

None of it happened, anyway.

If we're talking about forums, only the admin can; none of us mods have any power over the technical layout and stuff. The only admin I know of is ShinjukuEki. We can either PM him or post the notion in the "Site Suggestions" section. EDIT: But I'll also add that he rarely comes on, or shows that he does, anyway.

If we're talking about threads, I do hope someone with a good knowledge of the said language can start us off, by simply making one - addressing the common issues beginners face and also conveniently address the undisputed points of the language to avoid arguments.
