83rd Academy Awards, 2011. - 01-27-2011, 11:25 AM

The Oscars ceremony is only 31 days away! Sunday, 27th of February, it's gonna air live on ABC.

I used to stay up all night to watch it (it's 4 in the morning on my side of the world) but I have class early on Monday so I can't make it this year, which makes me truly sad.

This thread is for sharing your opinion on the nominated movies, say which nominees deserve to be awarded, who you think will win in each category, etc.

I really haven't seen many of the movies in the running this year, but my bet for best picture is Black Swan, which by the way I can't wait to see. Along with The King's Speech, I hear they're both really good.

Here's a link to the OSCAR WEBSITE where you'll find the list of all the nominees in each category.

I cant comment on Black Swan as I havent seen it but both Kings speech and The social network are worthy contenders for best pic in my opionion.

Out of all those, I've only seen Inception. I have a feeling True Grit will win best picture....

Suki, I too remember staying up late into the wee hours of the morning when TVE1 used to show it back in the 70s in Madrid.... I had to use a 10" portable Sony B&W television and go into the kitchen to see it as the living room TV was too close to my parents bedroom and I'd wake them.... Back then it was live dubbed, but you could still hear a bit of English bleed through.... That was the only time I could hear English on TV, since there were no things as home videotape players yet available!

I just watched The Social Network, and I believe Aaron Sorkin is getting the Oscar in the writing (Adapted Screenplay) category. Fucking awsome lines.

TVE doesn't broadcast the ceremony anymore, it's Canal+ and it's Spanish dubbed over the original audio.

Back when I used to live there, there was only TVE1 starting at 1pm and TVE2 started at 6pm and ended at midnight! I am really dating myself, aren't I?

Did they drop the animation category and that's why TS3 is in with the big boys?

Inception.

Too many people spend money they haven't earned, to buy things they don't want, to impress people they don't like.

No, it is also nominated for best animated along with two other movies.

I'm sure it'll win that category then, leaving room for the others. Perhaps it was nominated as best picture as well to acknowledge its merits....
