Earthqakes, tsunamis, blowing reactors. By many years i've heard that if on this world is country and people who can stand that kind of cathastrophy it's Japan and it Nation. But!, but there was no one who could answer how to stand with loss of belongins. I also can't. I can only be whit You in comparssion, sorrow and tears.

good article:

Quote:
The landscape of parts of Japan looks like the aftermath of World War Two; no industrialised country since then has suffered such a death toll. The one tiny, tiny consolation is the extent to which it shows how humanity can rally round in times of adversity, with heroic British rescue teams joining colleagues from the US and elsewhere to fly out.
And solidarity seems especially strong in Japan itself. Perhaps even more impressive than Japan’s technological power is its social strength, with supermarkets cutting prices and vending machine owners giving out free drinks as people work together to survive. Most noticeably of all, there has been no looting, and I’m not the only one curious about this.
This is quite unusual among human cultures, and it’s unlikely it would be the case in Britain. During the 2007 floods in the West Country abandoned cars were broken into and free packs of bottled water were stolen. There was looting in Chile after the earthquake last year – so much so that troops were sent in; in New Orleans, Hurricane Katrina saw looting on a shocking scale.
Why do some cultures react to disaster by reverting to everyone for himself, but others – especially the Japanese – display altruism even in adversity?

also very generous:

UNIQLO (japanese clothing company) donates 300 million yen (~$3.6mi) + 300,000 Heattech garments (thermals), employees donate another 100 million yen (~$1.2mi) and their CEO is planning on donating 1billion yen of his own money (~$12.2mi)

my company just announced today they'll be donating $5million to relief efforts

You should stop by more often. It's lonely without you here.

Hi All, I first registered on this site to learn about Japanese food but I haven't been on it for ages hardly use it anymore, glad I haven't deleted my account cos then I wouldve just had to make another to make this post..

I just wanna say first how sorry I am for what has befallen this beautiful country and from what I have witnessed so far on the news, which is non-stop over here(Britain), from what I have witness I see that it is a beautiful country with equally beautiful people. I'm feeling great admiration for the Japanese every time I see this news cos I don't know if anyone else has noted this but I am amazed by their reactions to this disaster, they are so calm it's unreal and no violence looting panicking etc etc, no offense intended anyone here from New Orleans, but I can't help but think of when I saw the whole Hurricane Katerina thing on the news it was a very different picture and as well as feeling deeply saddened by the events I was also disgusted by some of the stories coming out of that area.

I'm very very amazed by the reaction to this disaster, and very humbled by the nobility of these people even in this most trying of time. I watched the news on C5 this evening and there were shots of people searching among the debris for loved ones and there was this guy searching for his daughter, something he said stuck in my head, he said he didn't like all these foreign reporters coming here filming his country when its like this because - Japan will rise again.
