The areas worst affected haven't been reached yet, considering how strongly it was felt in Tokyo its hard to imagine what it was like near the epicenter.
The tsunamis began to hit within 20 minutes of the quake, not likely giving people much time to get dressed, let alone get to high ground. Video showed a ship being tossed around with the crew trying to hold onto the rails. Huge whirlpools were created, sinking many boats. It's going to take a long time to figure out the extent of the damage, and the cleanup is going to take a long time, |
