No, I don't think it's a "HUGE NUCLEAR DISASTER". They say it's similer to Three Mile Island wich, in the long run, was a big loto nothin. Nobody died, nobody got cancer, no china syndrome meltdowns took place and reactor two is still functioning and provideing power because people STILL work at the place.

It might eventually turn out that way.. but that would be due to the efforts of the brave workers rather than the non-severity of the situation. It is said that the Fukushima 50 will probably die in the next few months. So already that's around 200 people dead. So this disaster already has a higher death toll. |

It's true that it's not exactly the same, but the big difference is that it's powered by radioactive decay heat rather than nuclear fission heat. Still, most of the Earth's internal heat, including that which is keeping the iron core molten, comes from nuclear decay reactions. And like a nuclear reactor, Earth converts some of that heat into mechanical work, which is exactly what caused the earthquake we've been discussing.

1st water sprayed at Fukushima's No. 4 reactor
TOKYO, March 20, Kyodo Japanese authorities shot water into a spent-fuel pool of the reactor No. 4 of the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant Sunday for the first time since the reactor's cooling system failed following last week's powerful earthquake. The operator also stepped up efforts to reactivate the cooling system of the reactors No. 1 and 2 as power cables were connected to them, but the International Atomic Energy Agency chief indicated it was premature to have an optimistic view on the future of the troubled plant. The Ground Self-Defense Force sprayed about 80 tons of water from a vehicle into the pool for nearly one hour until 9:30 a.m., according to the Defense Ministry. The move came after the Tokyo Fire Department shot water into a spent-fuel storage pool of the No. 3 reactor in an overnight operation that lasted more than 13 hours until 3:40 a.m. More than 2,000 tons of water is believed to have been put into the No. 3 reactor's pool, exceeding the pool's capacity of 1,400 tons. Fuel rods used at the reactor were plutonium-uranium mixed oxide fuel, known as MOX, said to be harder to control than normal fuel rods made from uranium. The power plant which was hit hard by the March 11 magnitude 9.0 earthquake is on the Pacific coast of Fukushima Prefecture about 220 kilometers northeast of Tokyo. IAEA chief Yukiya Amano made cautious comments on the future of the Fukushima plant. Amano said, upon his return to Vienna from a trip to Japan, ''I hope that safety, stability will be recovered as soon as possible...But I still don't think it is time to say that I think they are going in a good direction or not'' Tokyo Electric Power Co. said that the previously overheated spent-fuel storage pools of the reactors No. 5 and No. 6 were cooled down to 37.1 C and 41.0 C, respectively, as of 7 a.m. Sunday. The company said it plans to check the system of the No. 2 reactor first as the building housing its containment was not damaged, which means it is hard to cool it down using water from outside. The fuel rods partially melted in the reactor but it is unknown how much water is left in its fuel storage pool. The company will try to restore the systems Sunday to monitor radiation and other data, light the control room and cool down the reactor and a spent-fuel storage pool of the reactor. ==Kyodo |

Death toll to top 15,000 in quake-hit Miyagi alone: police
TOKYO, March 20, Kyodo The death toll from last week's devastating earthquake and tsunami will top 15,000 in Miyagi Prefecture alone, the local police chief said Sunday, while the Self-Defense Forces, police and firefighters continued their relief work for Day 10. More than 360,000 evacuees continued to endure cold weather at shelters in 14 prefectures, including Tokyo as relief materials such as blankets arrived in Japan from overseas. The relief supplies from 13 economies included 25,000 blankets from Canada, 30,000 packets of boil-in-the-bag fried rice and 230,000 water bottles from South Korea and 500 power generators from Taiwan, according to Japanese authorities. The evacuees included 20,000 residents from areas near the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in Fukushima Prefecture, who have moved to seven other prefectures such as Niigata, Yamagata and Tochigi. Radioactive iodine and cesium, which were generated from uranium fission, have been detected in tap water, rain and air in a wide area southwest of the nuclear plant, including Tokyo, the science ministry and the Ibaraki prefectural government announced Sunday, but denied any health risk. The number of dead and missing all over Japan rose to 20,405 as of Sunday noon -- 8,133 deaths and 12,272 unaccounted for, the National Police Agency said. In the town of Otsuchi in Iwate Prefecture, Mayor Koki Kato was found dead Saturday, prefectural officials said Sunday. The mayor went missing since being washed away by the tsunami during an emergency meeting outside the government building shortly after the March 11 2:46 p.m. quake. Prime Minister Naoto Kan attended the graduation ceremony of the National Defense Academy in Yokosuka and urged the cadets to work together, referring to relief activities by SDF members. The graduates join the SDF in fiscal 2011, which starts April 1. ==Kyodo |

Because I became tired because of the aftershock of every day, the mass media was not able to fuel and to dance by the panic article set up.
Disappointment and anger arise when work that incorporates the list of names of the refuge that reflected in TV momentarily and makes to TEXT is done. Wish from me Do not write the name in the list of names of the refuge by the katakana. Write the nationality. It is a terrible trouble that examines spelling and the nationality.
