Still feeling aftershocks after five and a half hours. It is night here now, tomorrow's pictures will be pretty bad.

People in Tokyo remain stranded, it looks like many are going to spend the night at their workplaces, the convenience stores are packed, and people are carrying lots of beer and snacks back to their offices. Thankfully I had today off work, it would have been a long walk home.

The current death toll is 17, and is certain to rise. One person was killed in Marunouchi (next to Tokyo Station), where I was riding my bike half an hour before the quake.

Heck of a thing to see first thing on the morning news. Glad to hear from many forum members in Japan who are safe. My thoughts are with them and all those affected by this horrible event.

Be safe all!

Fortunately, there is one woman in this world who can control me.

Unfortunately for you, she is not here.

I am not Japanese but I am in Japan. The latest death toll is 56 people, honestly for as powerful as that quake was, I am surprised only a (relative) few people have been killed. Not that it makes it any less of a tragedy though...

Mostly likely but let's hope it stays low.

I heard quite a number of the deaths were caused by simply just elderly people falling badly in their homes or else loose falling masonry.

Then again, there's no accurate numbers from the coastal areas yet; I imagine the count is a long way from over yet.
