I don't know about the rappers, but girls are crazy for Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga right now.

I'm not a cynic; I just like to play Devil's Advocate once in a while.

Justin Bieber is insanely popular, as is Lady Gaga
And Japan may be one of the only countries in the world where Backstreet Boys is still popular too..might as well be the 90s
All in all I'd say American pop culture is very popular in Japan
So is fashion etc too which is ironic because Japanese dress so much better than 90% of Americans

LOL, Justin Bieber, just the name of him put a smile on my face. It is unfortunate for Japan to be hit by all of the natural disasters the Tsunami, Nuclear Meltdown and the Beiber Fever.

I doubt they've been hit by ''Beiber Fever''. I know from watching the Oricon charts occasionally Avril Lavinge and Lady Gaga come in to annoy us,there's no escape right? Once it was even an old Beatles song that doesn't even have any relevance. It's never anything good like Take That. If there were white and black singers that were original products in the charts then it wouldn't bother me.

It's actually pretty bad, so much so I've actually heard Japanese use the word ビーバーフィーバー (biibaa fiibaa)
He had a huge live performance like two months ago in Tokyo and it practically sold out
..I know this because the girl I was dating at the time went to it
Makes me want to drink myself into a coma

Practically? Unless it sold out within 30 minutes of the tickets going on sale, I wouldn`t be concerned.

I have to agree. You mean Justin Beiber concerts do not sell out in Japan? That doesn't fare well for the argument that Beiber Fever is alive and well in Japan. He sells out shows like crazy in the US. Took under 30 minutes to sell out Madison Square Garden.

When I lived in Japan I used to love seeing acts I liked live because they would play much smaller venues than I could see them in the US. The ticket prices were more expensive, but definitely worth seeing a band you like at a 200 person GA venue than at a 12,000 seat arena. In fact, I haven't even gone to a concert in over a decade because of that.

Not selling out is a pretty good hint that it`s not all that popular. Even smaller bands I have been interested in seeing, who don`t have much a following at all, have been sold out when I check to buy a ticket an hour or so after they go on sale.

Either way, I can`t say I`m a fan, but... Is it necessary to bash other people`s musical tastes? I have never really understood that.
