Need help with a Christmas Present. -
10-20-2011, 09:41 PM
Ok well I wanted to ask my question here but will include an intro..
Name is Shively, I have collected and shared game ( mostly ) but some anime soundtracks for the last 11 years online etc etc.. Now days I still collect game music but know very little about anime. My girlfriend of 6 years is Japanese and she is way more into anime than I. My knowledge of anime pretty much extends from Armitage to Ogenic Clinic and ghost in the shell and howls moving castle.. Thats it. She did once tell me that todays stuff is not all that good and the golden age of Anime was in the 1990's... Anyways I will be home this Christmas from driving truck and I really want to get her something she will like. Seems my girlfriend does not get excited about stuff easly and she is not very materilistic but there are those FEW things she will get excited over, I'm sure anime is one of them but ONLY if its the right one.. I did a search on google about popular 1990s anime and ran across a topic posted in this forum, sorry if this is NOT the right place for it. BTW Im not infected with yellow feaver, I realise not every Japanese person watches anime etc etc.. Thanks. |

This is 'Hello Kitty';
Here is a link to a 'Hello Kitty anime' search; https://ixquick.com/do/metasearch.pl? I would suggest any of the 'Hello Kitty' gifts & products. Thats just the thing, I know she had some anime series about these dolls that Japanese dudes would have kinda like a pet, and one actualy gets a mind of its own.. Another one I saw in her collection was CHRONO / something.
Not Chronotriger ( although an anime based on the game would be nice. Shes not into distubing or little kid stuff... I know she liked a movie called howls moving castle and when I showed her a clip of Ogenki Clinic ( which is the first anime I was introduced to anime with ) she did not like it... I think Ive " hello Kittyed " her out, we both love cats and I admit Hello Kitty is cute but Ive gotton her a purse, psp holder, watches, clocks etc. So I guess to narrow it down, maybe an adult ( non heavy sex ) related anime on love or romance with a good story line and not a bunch of sex stuff.. I know her brother reads manga which I plan to get him something roughly translated to yaoi brothers. I think its gay but I can play stupid when I give it to him for xmas, thats what he gets for being 33 years old with only 1 job for 6 months in his life time... Anyways thanks guys. |

List of Anime/Manga I know of and watch often (you may want to Google these for descriptions)
-Death Note (Shinigami, slight love story, slight violence, supernatural in ways, good story line) -Rosario + Vampire (can't remember if there IS an anime for this, but there is a manga. It's quite Ecchi [can't spell that word, sorry!] but there's a love story with violence. Only human in a school full of monsters, falls in love with a vampire) -BlackBird (again, not sure if there is an anime, but it's love/violence. The whole supernatural thing again with demons and humans in love) -Pandora Hearts (quite elegant I guess, good story line, guy falls into an abyss and comes out same age as he went in etc) -The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (love story, time travel) -Tales From Earthsea (I've forgotten the story to this, I haven't seen it in ages) -Princess Mononoke (again, not sure of the story, It's been quite some time) -Chobits (admittedly I am unsure if there is an anime as I have never got past chapter one of the first book. I hate libraries that close early!) -Spirited Away (not sure how to describe it... Cute, funny, good story line) Those are all I can think of... I've seen/read a lot more, I just can't think right now. I hope some of these are helpful. Without a good idea of the type of person your girlfriend is and the things she likes, I wouldn't be able to give accurate suggestions, but those are some popular manga/anime amongst a lot of the girls I know. Click to view the band I'm in! http://www.lulu.com/content/legacy-l...light/12097115 - My fiancé and I have created a poetry book together! It's quite dark, but there's some really cute poems too ^-^ |

If she liked Howls Moving Castle and she can read English, why don't you get her the original book by Diana Wynn-Jones. It's actually different from the movie and really good, and not many fans of the film have heard of it so it'd be a nice surprise. It's also inexpensive so you could get her some merch to go with it as well. |
