Yes it is trendy to be 'skinny' but has anyone realized this...
In society, more people are dying from trying to be skinny than being obese. I mean, being obese, sure you can suffer from a heart attack or something but if someone goes anorexic or bulimic just to be skinny, they're probably going to die from the lack of nutrients in their body. Unless they get help, then they are pretty much going to be hospitalized or something... half of my family is obese and nothing has gone wrong but some of my friends family had been bulimic or anorexic and died |

YOUR A LITTLE BITCH. and that comes from the heart =) um so it's okay for girls to look thin and die while theyre at it? anyway.... yes asians are naturally small in figure and they're thin from either genetics or the food they eat. but in japan there are fat girls, short girls, chubby girls, thin girls, fit girls, just like anywhere else (oh boys too...) it's not a TREND, it's just preference. "hey souljah boy, can i.... YAHH TRICK YAHHH!!!!!" |

I have a friend from Japan who came to my school for two weeks. She was [I'm just guessing] about 5ft 4 and weighed about 105lb. I, on the otherhand am 5ft 9 1/2 and weigh 158 lb. It shocked me how often she commented [in Japanese] on how in shape I am-AND yes, at times, she did see alittle envious of my height and curves-especially when I took her clothes shopping.
so I think the grass IS greener on the other side for just about everybody. I have a feeling that most Japanese teenage girls envision American women as being tall, vuluptous, and beautiful [like Beyonce]-where as they themselves feel dwarfish and frail. Personally, the reason I have always wanted to be stick-thin is because it makes me feel young, like the little kid I used to be. |

Well, in alot of ways it depends on what you want from your body.
I'm 6'4" and 282 lbs. I'm not technially obese but my body fat is higher than it should be. I'm a fighter so being big all around is both an advantage and disadvantage for me. I push my body to be both strong and fast. But I'm alwas stuggleing with my weight. A fact that makes fighting and living hard. It was alwas beaten in my head that being fat is bad and being anything else is better. So in alot of ways, I'm motivated to be heathy, not for the benefits to my lifespan, but for the help in Martial Arts and the cosmetic benefits. |

I agree. Its like this everywhere. I went to school with some girls who, hell, they could get any guy they wanted, but then some one said they were fat, and now that we're out of school, I know that 1 out of the 4 of them, has died due to an eating disorder, another still has health issues with her bones being to frail, but all the remaining three of the 4 are all in therapy, cause of the eating disorders they had aquired just because they got called fat. I've also gone to school with some others, not just girls, but boys, who started over eating because of the peer pressure in school. The pressure to be thin is every where. I will say one thing though, I remember a few years back, that a Modeling agency over in I think either Spain or Italy, refused a bunch of girls, cause they were under their BMI Rate, and told them they had to be at their BMI rate or a little over to model for them. But that was a few years ago.

I think there are so many ways to describe someone's weight and it's all subjective. Thin, frail, skinny, curvy, etc...
Someone's thin to me may be wayyy too thin. I see that a lot in America. I prefer curvy women, but of course it's hard to define what exactly "curvy" is. My girlfriend's BMI is higher than mine, but it doesn't bother me, I'm naturally thin because of my overworking metabolism. |
