I think when you guys think of Australian technically it's British English- basically Aussie without the slang. Same spelling etc.

Yeh I wonder who decides which English Japanese learn.

I think Post WWII decided that when japan became more and more westernized (with the help of America)

It depends on the examination you're getting prepared for. In Europe, non-English speakers take the ESOL exams and since they're in charge of the University of Cambridge it's got to be British English.

My Aussie friend tells me it annoys him whenever I say aluminum, apparently British/Aussies say aluminium.
