Japan, China to address water problems in China
Japan and China are to discuss ways to resolve water pollution and other water-related problems in China. The countries have agreed to launch a subcommittee on the issue at a bilateral environmental forum for energy conservation opening in Tokyo on November 28th. Officials from both governments as well as Japanese companies specializing in water purification and developers of water facilities are scheduled to attend the panel meeting. Due to its rapid economic development, China now faces acute water pollution in rivers and lakes in urban areas with high industrial concentration. Inland areas are plagued with chronic shortages of clean water for daily use. Participants at the meeting are expected to discuss projects to clean lake water by chemically decomposing algae that cause water pollution, and to create clean water from seawater and sewage.
