Nagasaki Mayor Itcho Ito was shot in front of JR Nagasaki Station on Tuesday evening, police said.
Police have named the shooting suspect as 59-year-old Tetsuya Shiroo from Nagasaki, a senior member of Suishin-kai, an affiliate of Japan's largest underworld syndicate Yamaguchi-gumi. The suspect allegedly shot Ito from behind as the mayor was returning to his office after campaigning for the upcoming mayoral election. Source: Nagasaki Mayor Shot - Mainichi |

Yes, it is sad. This further adds to my argument that, even in a country like Japan where guns are strictly forbidden, you can get one if you really want one.
