Japan Offers Bullet Train Technology to Russia - 06-29-2007, 12:13 AM

Japan taught China how to do bullet trains. The Japanese government is now offering the same technology to Russia. A senior official in the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry is heading to Russia next month to engage in preliminary talks with the Russian Railways president. If talks go well, a working group may be set up by this fall.
Russia could use a bullet train on their trans-Siberian route. Presently, it takes about 5 days to get across the country. Imagine how long it would take to build the Shinkansen tracks to reach that far. 12 hours or so from Moscow to St. Petersburg....one-third of the time.
Indeed a faster railway system would serve the giant Bear well...but, I can't imagine how much it would cost and how long it would take to reach to the corners of the world's largest, by size, country.

Well, 1st of all it was not the Russia who invaded (roughly said, as this fact officially is still under the question mark) it was USSR... But I completely agree with you on the causes of May riot, though unofficially, as there is no solid evidence proving them to be the provocateurs of the disorder...
But if we go back on the rail of this thread, i do not actually believe that the bullet train, even if they would build it (which i doubt) would serve them for too long as we all know what the russians in Russia (not the ones we have in Baltic states, Kitski) are alike... totter loome... (don't know the plural endings, sorry)

There isn't a better country to give it to, geographically speaking.
China? I guess that would be much better choice from the economical and geographical perspective...

Mmm, i guess you're right... now the Japanese tourists will be able to check out the great wild plains of Siberia much more easier lol... but anyway, i'll keep my eyes on how's the story evolving, as i ain't so sure that Russia will purchase this technology (think of the enormous building expenses and the current status of the economy in RU).
