Try this site: Miyajima Hotel Directories

Or this one: Japanese Guest Houses - Miyajima Ryokan

If all of those are full, you could always stay in Hiroshima, which is only a 15 minute ferry boat ride away...

Well, if this website is correct, the last ferry leaves Miyajima Island at 8:15 PM. http://www12.ocn.ne.jp/~matsudai/eng.htm

If you do stay in Hiroshima, here's some very inexpensive places to stay: Hostel Hiroshima, Backpackers Hiroshima, Guest House Hiroshima, J-Hoppers Hiroshima Japan
http://www.ttec.co.jp/~hyh/engtoppage.html
Hostels in Hiroshima - Book Online at Hostelworld.com

And your English is fine, don't worry about it!

I can confirm that August 14th is the day (Itsukushima Island)
Quote:
# Fireworks Display - August 14

* The largest fireworks display in western Japan is launched in front of Itsukushima Shrine.
Itsukshima Shrine Fireworks Festival Hiroshima

This site says it takes place between 7 PM and 9 PM, so you'll probably want to spend the night on the island to see it all.

Display Calendar
Quote:
Hiroshima Miyajima Suichu Hanabi taikai
-Waterborn fireworks display in Miyajima island
Date Every August 14. start at 19:00 to 21:00
Place Miyajima-machi, Saekigun, Hiroshima pref.
Access Tokaido Shinkansen line, get off at Hiroshima Sta, change to the old (Tokaido) line get off at Miyajima-guchi, change to ferry to Miyajima.
fifteen minutes on foot. Near by well-known "Itsukushima shrine".
Info Miyajima Tourist information society
Tel: 0829-44-2011
Note Waterborn fireworks that fired in front of Itskushima shrine takes us into a world of delicate beauty.
I didn't see the fireworks there, I traveled to Miyajima in winter, but I saw some beautiful fireworks other places in Japan, the best one that I saw was at Shirahama beach.

I stayed in Millions Hotel when I went to Hiroshima. It was the cheapest we could find, it was around 3000yen( approx ). You can booked them at Japanguide.com. The hotel is near the memorial park so its convenient. Get the 2 day pass , it cost 2000yen. You can use the pass to all the Chin-chin densha, ferry to miyajima, and cable car for 2 days . I think the ferry leaves the port every 30 minutes or so ..

Both of them seem to be in the middle of Hiroshima, near Peace Park, not down near the water's edge and the ferry boat station. But there's a train that will take you right down to the Miyajima ferry, so that's not too big a deal. Either one would be about the same, just choose the one you like.
