Which districts in Tokyo have the best food and most restaurants?

Besides sight seeing when I go to Japan next month, I plan on doing a lot of eating. Which districts have the best Japanese food and most restaurants?

I recall it being mentioned that Hokkaido has good foods, but mostly the seafoods I think.

He did mention Tokyo, so Hokkaido will be a bit far. You will have to hunt around Tokyo area, though there are some decent street food around Harajuku area, Also do check out Ueno, there are some nice small restaurant around Ueno station.. Whats your budget? If you want some fine dining type stuff, i do know of one chaya (茶屋）that that also doe Kaiseki, i need to dig up the info for you though

I'm just looking for reasonably priced awesome Japanese food like ramen, beef bowls, okonomiyaki, sushi etc..

little way from tokyo, but I found a ramen place near isogo station in Yokohama and NOTHING has come close to it since.... I want to go back - maybe I will after work tomorrow hahaha!

As for restaurants, most of the big tourist areas (shinjuku, shibuya, Ishikawacho etc) have a lot of restaurants for obvious reasons

Oh, thats right, totally forgot about Yokohama... I have to agree, they have amazing food there......

I actually would recommend to stay out of the tourist area, these "major" cities tend to cost more, you can probably find decent small street corner restaurant around major train stations though

yeah man, it's all about the small places down random back-alleys in quiet areas... I think that, because they are not as busy, they can afford to take more time so the food tastes much better

Anyway, my recommendation is to head to Yokohama for the day then, when you are finished, get the negishi (keihin-tohoku) line to isogo, come out of the station and follow the road to the left - after about 2mins walk (on the right), is the best ramen shop ever!

I will take a photo of it tomorrow if I remember (after posting my orig post, I realised how much I want to visit again hahaha!) so you know what to look for!

I agree... don't worry about finding restaurants before you get there, unless you want something very fancy and expensive. There are tons of little hole-in-the-wall places that have great food for reasonable prices. The best place to look is near any train station.

I have to say that great food is everywhere in Japan.

You can use Michelin Food Guide to look for fancy places but otherwise, just go with the flow.

Also, look up Metropolis or Gaijin Pot for more info.

I didn't even see "Tokyo" there. Well then...ignore what I just said. lol
