Well, It's finally time! I go to Japan Tomorrow!

Hi. I've been waiting 6 months for this day. Starting on March, 27 at 6:30AM I'll be boarding my plane to San Fransisco and then Japan! I'll be there all spring break and I'll be seeing many places. My question now is the following:

I'll be going to Nagoya and I have 56000 Yen to spend. It's a 10 day trip and the only time I'll have to spend my money is when I'm with my Home stay and 2 shopping expeditions with the other 9 students that got on the trip. If you have any idea of a place that sells nice gifts and clothes in this area, I would gladly appreciate it if you told me.

I leave tomorrow too! But my tomorrow is the 28th of March. Confusing timezones!!

I'm going to be staying near Nagoya for 3 weeks so am also interested in that area so thanks for asking this question!

If I were you, I'd go straight to Sakae for shopping, which is the name of central Nagoya. There are department stores, specialty stores of all kinds, hundreds of restaurants, etc. Go down to the HUGE underground shopping streets as well. Its size will amaze you. Sakae is literally located in the middle of Nagoya and is easily accessible by subway and bus. If you're a teenager, Parco alone may satisfy all your shopping needs. Parco is one big shopping mall in Sakae. It's pronounced 'Paruko' in case you need to ask a local about it.

My second bet would be just around the JR Nagoya Station. Takashima-ya, one of Japan's largest department stores is located right above the station in a skyscraper. There's a very large shopping area undergroud in that area, too.

Street fashion is just out of control in Nagoya! This is only natural because Nagoya and the surrounding area used to be the textile capital of Japan. Even though most of the factories have gone to China, the eye for better clothes is still there. Hope you enjoy my hometown! (Sadly, I live in Tokyo now....)

That sounds brilliant! I'll be staying near 長島駅 and don't have any plans apart from doing homestay for 3 weeks. It sounds like I'll be able to entertain myself by exploring Nagoya.

That's a cool location. You'll be so close to the famous Nagashima Resort with all its hot springs, large swimming pools and roller-coasters! I'm sure your host family will take you there. It says in its website that they are having a big flower festival now.
