expect to spend about 150-200 (US) a day on an average, this will include flight, other transportation, food and hotel.

Anything else like souvenir and entertainment will be extra.

If you are a true otaku, you will probably end up spending most of your money on toys and gadgets.... I spent about 7000 (US) on a 2 weeks trip, the first 2.9K was on flight, hotel, JR pass, Entrance Fee to different places, food..... the rest were on souvenirs and toys

My current room is 70k yen per month including utils, If your spending money is going to cover your room then you are fducked.

If you are coming for a month that includes 4 weekends. So you will go clubbing four to eight times. average enterance 5000 yen, drinks are VERY VERY expensive, more then London. I have seen a pint of beer go for 1500 yen, that is about 7.50 GBP.
If you are real Otaku then you will have to become half Otaku as the cost of feeding your desire and shipping it home will soon have you choosing what to buy in a very measured way. As an Otaku you will want to keep the original box yes? hahahaha. You better pack fducking light then as one large suitcase may contain only 9 figures if you are lucky. and most Japan flights only take one case.
You might want to try what I am doing and post it home but the cost soon adds up to negate the cost of the gadget/figure so you better make sure you cant by it in the west or that you are saving at least 30% on the western price.

Back to the clubbing scene. To enjoy a frequent and cost effective nightlife you will do best to hook up with a local that has contacts ie. DJ/Producer/Manager as they can often get you in free and introduce you to people that know of private parties and such, you will also enjoy some free drinks if you are lucky, but be aware that if you have to pick up a round it may cost you allot more then you expected.

I hope you do come over and have a good time. But be warned, it is not going to be cheap if you want to do the things you are saying.

Marcus.

Just to give a breakdown in GBP
My return flight was 640.00
3 months room/utils rent 1180.00
Phone card to this point 20.00
suica travel card so far 25.00
food and drink so far 135.00
Otaku so far 320.00
clothes so far 180.00
sundries so far 58.00

I have been here one week and 3 days.

70.000yens per month is I think a very good deal Odonata.

Its basically 430€. I have spent that in a hostel in london for two weeks and imo what you ll get in Tokyo will be nicer, then what I got in a youth hostel in London.

The drinks are expensive as I have heard but again if we look at London...
Here as I heard will get a beer for 600 yen or so, can even get it cheaper 3,69 € or cheaper less then 3€ is what I have been told. For instance in london it was 3,5 pounds+

Sushi...100-200 yen a piece or so they told me...probably variates...
If its 150yen per piece thats 0,92 € in london again I got sushi for
- 1,5
- 2,0
- 2,5
- 3
pounds per piece variating on what kind you pick...and thats...if you take 2 as an average 2,51€ per piece...

Otaku was ment not in extremes...we are simply fans of anything japan related etc...
So spending loads on toys or whatever wont be the case and thats 100%

Perhaps a question though odonata, I heard white ppl or better to say foreigns cant come to the japanese clubs but practically only foreign ones..and on the entrance to the japanese ones they are told they need to speak japanese to get in...
How much of that is true...and perhaps some more about getting to know the DJ and prices in overall...

Like I said imagine us as Students, like ppl who dont eat expensive food, who dont drink the most expensive drinks etc...

And well if it will take 10000€ for 1 month I ll gladly be educated that thats the case...

Just from the ppl that have went and been there, that is what we heard.
- One being there for a month and spent less then 700€
- and the other nakamas on average had with them 1500€ for 2 weeks and had more then enough...
Its why, in the end, we are on these forums alltogether ...if you just go... how can you expect to find cheap stuff when you come
...to sleep cheap , to eat cheap, etc...but if you get to know things beforehand...then maybe...just maybe you can save a lot of money and we aint talking about living on the edge and holding for a straw...we are talking about finding the best ways around expensive tokyo...

Like in one place you get a beer for 1200 yen and perhaps in another for 500 and there might be somewhere where you get it for 300 but that place sux so you ll take 500...but you didnt take 1200...and so you saved smth...

As long as you stick to that then you should be fine, food can get expensive, but as long as you know where to eat and what to eat, it shouldn't cost you more than US$7.00 a meal, if you are lucky, you can get by for around US$3.00 a meal

You are quite safe with the Onigiri, Taiyaki and Ramen... sushi will be around US$12 a person for a meal... give or take...

I was talking about your original post in that you wanted to come out to Tokyo and live large.

If you hit the wrong club at the wrong time you will get hit large. This is true of any large club but due to Tokyo's supply of people then the charges can be quite bad on a top night out.
Saying that, I have spent over 700 GBP on one night out in London.

My room was found using Oakhouse and they have quite a few places around Tokyo and are very resonable. Japan guest house Oakhouse - NO.1 guesthouse accommodation in Tokyo and Yokohama

If you are into Akiba then the where I am staying (Ueno park) is very convenient not only for akiba but for getting around to other Tokyo spots due to the large station and surrounding minor stations feeding other lines.
I am about 15 min walk from Akiba and about 3 min from Ueno Park.

Good fair shopping to be had in this area along with other male activities. 24 hour shops are all over the place. I think that within a mile radius of me there are over thirty 24 hour shop plus many, many vending machines.

If you want to do Tokyo on a budget then you should look at Oakhouse or Sakura (heard some bad stories about Sakura but they are the same budget as Oak). You get a room, bed, fridge, TV, aircon and then the shared facilities of kitchin area, Washer and dryer.

I am here for 3 months and am looking at an overall spend of 3.5K GBP max.
After the big costs of flight and accomodation then the basics of food drink, laundry and sundries it should leave me a good amount to enjoy myself.
Lets face it. A day in Ueno park sitting in the sun and watching the people is free.
