5 weeks in Japan -
05-04-2008, 05:43 AM
I'm going on a Japanese Intense Study Program for the University of Shizuoka this summer, and I'll be staying there for about a month. The cost is already reaching $3000 not including the plane ticket or spending money, and the payment is due at the end of the month, and I currently have $0 on me. Is there any way I can raise money in time? (scholarships, sponsoring, etc)
Also another question. I want to spend an extra week in Japan because they let you off on your own after the program is finished. What is the best way for me to find a place in the Tokyo area, and will they let a 16 (nearly 17) year old stay by myself? |

Well, there goes my chances of staying an extra week...
Nevertheless, thanks for the information. I know now for future reference. And I kind of couldn't help it, because I just found out that I got accepted into the program no less than 4 days ago, I applied for the program about 3 weeks ago, and i heard about this program a month ago. (Totally late) どうする?! |

3000$ is roughly 2000 euros, supose you could raise that if you worked 2 full time jobs :s if you cant cant any scholarship/sponsoring for your trip maybe you could have a family member co-sign a loan for you maybe, just an idear. btw does this program have a name? |

Thanks a lot (^.^)v
The most I CAN do is ask relatives for money, because I don't think any business in the area I live will let me work for a month... not to mention school and it being the end of the year. ( EXAMS! ) No there's no official name to it. It's just a collaboration with Sacramento State University and Shizuoka University. http://www.u-shizuoka-ken.ac.jp/~lan.../japanese.html Here's some information about it, but they only have it once a year and mainly to High School students. |

Don't you have any money saved up in the bank or anything? I have some for a rainy day but not everyone does.
You'll have to work a couple of jobs, like someone said, maybe do babysitting for your relatives or something like that too? As for sponsors, it's usually for things like charities, not really 'pay for my trip to Japan' type stuff >.< Also, if you've got any old junk in your room or things you don't want anymore, get on Ebay and sell them off! |

If I had been able to swing this, the 'rents would have paid for it. I'm surprised you applied without any idea of how you were going to pay for it!

Actually, when I first applied, I thought I was going to have enough money..
But certain things occurred during the month of april that i wish i had no part in. (i.e. paying for Advanced Placement Exams, Prom, Field trip to Japantown, KeyClub Events, etc.) And others that my parent's had to pay. Besides, my parents are divorced, so it's even harder because they need to find a way to split the spending costs evenly. |

You applied for a summer program in April? And they were accepting applications? Something seems strange to me.
$3000 for just homestay and classes for four weeks seems incredibly expensive. And doesn't include airfare and expenses? Are you sure this is legit? |
