Considering that Americans had to fight against Germans and Japanese at two different fronts explains why Americans still carry strong feelings towards both Nations.

Thats why the simple American = lots of prejudice is coming from.

Not really. I hear a lot about German pride, and this country had SO MANY national businesses outpouring support during the Japanese Tsunami, but whatever. You dont live here, I do. You seem to make comments about people you think you know but really dont, and yet you seem to think your lack of knowledge should be held superior than to those with more experience.

what are you talking about?

and no I think spread the knowledge about the discussion of prejudice thats all.

Why do you think are Americans the only ones who scream something as silly as USA; USA; USA on Sporting events?

...ALL countries do.

South Korea; [clapclap, clapclap, clap] 대한민국!!! (The country Cheer; Dae Han Min Gook)
Japan was chanting just as loud in Womans world cup, "Nippon!" along with a drum/clap chant.
Come on, at national events, every country can be silly ;]

American companies donated a lot to Japanese relief. And a lot of people have pride in being German Americans. (German is a common language people want to speak around here too.)

Korean, Filipino, Chinese/Taiwanese...those and others were under Japanese control at one point. So hmmm.

Also, I am American. Watch who you degrade, you never see me calling Germans useless ;]
Yeah, Bobby hasn't a clue here....

Short version:

Grandparents (mother's side) born in the Basque country.
Grandfather was director of The Bank of the Philippine Islands (a Spanish Bank then) in Manila and later sent to Cebu City.
My mother was born in Cebu City and lived there until a year after the liberation. She moved to Madrid and later met my American father.
I was born and raised in Madrid for 21 years until I went to the USAF and Japan back in 1987. That was my first Japan experience.... 2 years in Tohoku.

What happened at the end of 2007? - 10-09-2011, 11:13 PM

Hey all.

I was just wondering something, but didn't think it merited its own thread, so I'll tag it onto this one.
Basically, I was looking through Google Trends, and I noticed something strange. At the end of the year 2007, it seems that all topics related to Japan make (in some cases) a large spike in searches. I was wondering if anyone here could offer an explanation as to why search terms related to Japan spiked at that time?

Only one of my images is small enough to attach to this post, and unfortunately it only shows a very small example of a spike. but if you go onto Google Trends and type in 'hotels in Japan' and 'learn Japanese', you'll see much larger spikes.

Was something important announced, or did something happen to make it spike?

Riyo Mori was named Miss Universe in May.... Perhaps that was the reason many men wanted to learn Japanese and go there....

Of course, this is pure conjecture and grossly incorrect. It was just humor.

I really don't know the reason for a spike. There appears nothing unusual happened then.... earthquakes, PM resignation, etc.... same thing, different year.
