You can get just the kimono robe second hand or an obi actually quite cheaply. There's a second hand store in Arashiyama which is not exorbitant. I got a nice one for about 4000 yen, which is less than $100. And yes, I mean Kimono not Yukata and that included tabi socks and hima strings, but not an underrobe or Obi. Of course the more embroidered it is, the more it'll cost, and being second hand, there may be some staining, so check it all over and be sure youre happy with what you're getting. If it's only for display, a bit of discolouration on the inside won't hurt. I've seen no less than two kimono shops in the two weeks since I arrived in Tokyo, but I didn't check any prices or go inside.

There also used to be a couple who sold second-hand cheaper ones on a stall inside Fushimi inari shrine.
