Technology shopping in Japan - 07-22-2007, 06:49 PM

Ive heard that technology is really cheap in japan?

I am after a Nikon d200 digital slr camera and wondering if i can get one cheap when i go on holiday to japan next year. They are about £800 minimum just for the body here.

any suggestions? where would be the best and cheapest place to go?

I would expect to find the newest, but not the cheapest technology on your visit. The release prices of the DS, PS2, PSP, etc. were all above the price in the US, at least. Cameras are really great, and you can get ones that haven't been released in the west, yet, but "cheap" is not the term I would use for them.

On the other hand, toys, models, figures, etc. tend to be cheaper than the Japanese imports you might find.

Hi - 07-27-2007, 10:35 AM

If you love technology and Japan, you really should check out Akihabara. That place rocks. I wish I lived near there!

I love taking Pictures of Japan. I love Japan, do you? Check out my Okinawa Pictures. Okinawa is home, a small little island in Japan.

Akihabara, no more no less, especially as a tourist, you get them duty free. If you are into Sony goods, the Sony Building in Ginza is just as good, really no difference in price for the high end stuff.

I got a Sony UX1 for half the price its being sold in the UK, bargain if you ask me but the Japanese version was still £200 cheaper. I was really sad they didnt have the PS3 for foreign countries, i was tempted to buy the Japanese version

Tokyo is a expensive place to live and shop at=P
