American Going to College in Japan? - 05-04-2009, 12:25 AM

I searched for this and was surprised when nothing came up Has anyone ever heard of people going to college in Japan who aren't from Japan?

Whatever I end up doing with my life, I hope it has something to do with me being in Japan. So I figured, if I want to be in Japan anyway, why not go to college there, too? I know some American colleges offer year programs to study abroad, but what about all four or more years?

So does anyone know about anything like that? Like colleges that accept foreigners whose only objective is to learn as much Japanese as possible?

~*Also, I'm going on an exchange this year and was wondering if anyone knew what kind of adapter I'll need?*~

Here is the official report of foreign student exchange (2004 in English).

http://www.mext.go.jp/a_menu/koutou/...020201/001.pdf

And there are many college or univercity who accept foreign students.

For example, Tokushima national university accepts

1) students nominated by Embassy,
2) students nominated by Univercity and
3) students recruited in Japan.

These are described in a Japanese page http://www.tokushima-u.ac.jp/article/0011136.html .

However, I can not find corresponding page in English.

There must be good description n English. I will look for them.

First of all you should ask yourself why you want to be in Japan. If you want to go there just to say you are in Japan and just to have fun then you may be going for the wrong reasons.
You'll have to make a great impression on whatever school you want to get into. You'll have to make them want to take you in opposed to a local, of this I am sure.

Oh I don't know. What's wrong with wanting to have fun?
