they're quite...preppy-ish.

By Shibuya girls you, of course, mean Gyaru, right? I agree that a lot of stuff is a little on the preppy side. It's only natural that they would share some elements since Gyaru came from Japanese girls copying California girls. A good example of this would be Uggs. (-shudders-)
However, some looks, such as Haady Gyaru, are totally different. Haady Gyaru looks more like a Gyaru manifestation of Scene, in my opinion. Manba, Banba, and Himegyaru are a few styles that you could never tie preppy fashion to.

I would post pictures, but I don't feel like it at the moment.

Wow, all these styles you all have posted are really interesting. I've never seen a lot of them, but my favorite styles so far that I've seen would probably have to be Oshare Kei and Ruder.

I love several different Japanese Fashion styles...Lolita, Decora, Kigurumi, Ganguro, Kogal, Oshare Kei, Visual Kei, etc.

About Ganguro and Kogal, I like the style, just not the tan and the make-up. But they're clothes are fresh and and cool! Egg and Ranzuki magazines are really getting better with Ganguro/Kogal fashion!

Lol
That's adorable.

You guys do realize there's more to the style scene in Japan rather then just the eccentrics?

I'd say this site is pretty damn accurate to the majority of what people where in Japan aside from MMM's post.
