Just googled up visual kei(never knew what it was till now) and iv'e never seen a Emo run around with that style.... I guess one shoulden't worry it being linked to Emo's......beacuse if you wear it the way i see it's supposed to be weared it has nothing that can be linked to emo's at all.... just don't start cutting yourself and posting pics of it on deviantart.......(emo's ruined his life) /joins the anti emo army...

People should check before talking crap...

Goth and Emo are very related to each other. Goth emerged in early 80' and Emo in mid 80'. Visual Kei came earlier than Emo, but I don't think Emos stole the style for just a year, Visual Kei wasn't even known at that time here.

Also Emo is mostly related to Rock styles of clothing, and mostly Goth, which came before Visual Kei.

The fact that a style is similar to another doesn't mean it copied...

And I don't think they are that similar anyway.

Once you get to uni/college, no one gives a f**k what you wear or listen to, and how you express yourself

END OF STORY.

get over emos/vk/goth. it doesn't matter.
You are human, you have money to buy clothes and cds and fuck knows what else.
other people aren't so lucky. like people in third world countries.

Really? I thought Emo was a much later style, late 90's at the earliest. Of course, I haven't done my research on this because I thought that a late date was a given...I suppose it wasn't.

That aside, I think the styles look very similiar. May just be me opinion, though. Emo looks like punk lolita, while Goth looks like Gothic Lolita (I never thought this one was copied, but from what I've seen, there are a few similarities).

I just hope that if there are future styles that are devloped from VK, they at least acknowledge VK as the original =)

If you search on Google for "scene fashion" or "scene girls" you will see photos of a lot of people who look like they might be into VK, only they have probably never heard of it. And, some of them even have a lot of hello kitty type accessories.

I think there must be influence on the scene fashion from Japan, even if many of the scene kids don't know it.
my 'i-am-so-scene-but-don't-call-me-scene' sister thinks that Japanese ppl stole from scene

i'm pretty sure about 80% (fake statistics ftw? XD) of scene kids don't hav a clue that scene is influenced by Japan

nah, i was emo once (3 years, almost 4)
but i didn't dress the way emo ppl do, i didn't even kno what 'emo' was at that time
it was because i felt alone in the world, and my 'friends' were pushing me away, telling me to go away and such
got over it the next skool year tho, mostly cuz i found better friends ^__^
i don't wanna go back to the emoz way

I think everybody is making such a huge deal out of being called a style. Don't you dress/behave Emo / Visual Kei / Gothic because you feel comfortable that way? Then why even bother with what others say?
I know this sounds very easy to say, but to me it's just that easy. I don't bother to fit in anywhere, people call me Emo, Visual Kei and Gothic all the time and I just nod and continue. I feel comfortable the way I look and I'm not going to waste my energy on trying to fit in anywhere.
