I know this sounds very easy to say, but to me it's just that easy. I don't bother to fit in anywhere, people call me Emo, Visual Kei and Gothic all the time and I just nod and continue. I feel comfortable the way I look and I'm not going to waste my energy on trying to fit in anywhere.
you are one of few ... a lot of people dress in certain styles ... because they 'want' to fit in with others... because they think it is cool ... etc etc...

of all my friends growing up .. i can think of maybe 2 or 3 that dressed a certain way because that was just them ... pretty much everyone else dressed that way because 'so and so' dressed that way ... or 'insert fave band' dressed that way ...

I tried that. But I gave up quickly when I switched favourite bands so often it was impossible to keep up with. xD
I like to stick to John Lennon though, "above us only sky" from the classic song "Imagine".

Japan IS a little behind in music, 20 years was just my way of saying they're really behind. but its not always a bad thing. ever heard B.A.A.L? an industrial band in Japan. they're so freaking good, they're still doing real industrial with crunchy guitars and things like that. things like western industrial bands dont really do anymore. industrial nowadays is just shitty synths and drums, whilst a decade or so ago, it was much louder, a little more incorporated into metal, like B.A.A.L's music.

and yeah. i agree. if you can't handle the insults, just don't dress VK.
and besides. idk how people who dress like that say its "unique"
nothing is really unique anymore, cause if you dressed VK, more than likely all your friends do also, so that doesn't really make you unique or an individual, does it?
and if you dress "Goth" or whatever, more than likely your friends will dress that way too.

its just a different kind of conformity.
quite untrue in my situations. i hav a goth friend, and no1 else that we hang out with is goth, or anything near goth.
but she doesn't call herself 'unique,' so i guess it's a different story

and i'm sure if i started dressing a certain way at school, none of my friend's would follow that style

*shrug* doesn't matter, just felt like posting...something

I may not like VK, but with no bias or bullsh*t - emo ruins everything it touches.

The music is terrible, and the fashion is just gross. They're also elitists. But they're aping the styles of punk rock and goth, not VK. VK is aping the styles of American hair metal and Victorian England. So if you want to delve a bit deeper, a British historian might claim that you VK guys and gals are ruining historical British fashion.

That being said I can't stand people who can't get with the time. My parents call any handheld system a "gameboy" and every RPG is Pokemon or World of Warcraft

kinda makes u think twice before claiming that something is 'ruining' ur style, since ur style might be 'ruining' another style hahah

I find myself agreeing with you a lot lately XD Japanese visual kei is like a collage of historical fashions with a touch of modern, absolutely. The original fashion designers of those times are probably rolling in their graves. Either that or they're flattered.

I don't think either of them are "ruining" anything..
They are two completely different fashion styles born from completely different cultures.

If you asked a V.K japanese person, they probably wouldnt even know what an "emo" is.
Same as if you ask an emo who knows nothing about japan what V.K is.. they wouldnt know..

I wouldnt say anyone is ruining anything though.

C'mon lift me up it's a brand new day
Open up a lil happiness today
So I can be someone new..!
